With the exception of Living Colour at the club three years ago, the last live rock show I saw was Nirvana in support of In Utero (Aragon Ballroom, Chicago, 10/23/1993 supposedly the only known live performance of ?You Know You?re Right). I've attempted many shows since but always bailed at the last moment.  Some I regret (2 PIL shows, a Twighlight Singers/ Margot and the Nuclear So & Sos show), others dodging a bullet (Hole at the club 6/27/10).

But tonight I took a chance at bought a ticket to the Spiders/graveyard show. Long story short it made me realize what I've been missing all these years.

[kids younger than me] + [musical style older than me] = amazeballs

Glad you liked them I've seen them three times and they always deliver. How was the attendance? I thought the price tag was a bit steep. I had to work until 10pm so had no chance of getting to check them out this time around. Go see more shows man, you won't regret it.

FTFY
but the truth!
typically my only regret is my bank statement

It was slow to build, but eventually was a very respectable size. I guess being an early show definitely prevented people from attending.

This is where I pull out my elitist attitude toward music. I don't generally attend large venue events A) because of ticket prices and B) I'm not interested in sitting in the nosebleeds staring at ants on a stage a mile away. I want to be part of what's going on on stage. The only large venue I can recall ever attending was the first Lollapalooza. And I mean, at that time who wouldn't? Even by today's standards that would be a freaking amazing line-up.

That being said the current exceptions would be Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters and QOTSA just because I've never seen them before.
QOTSA is great in any size venue I've seen them in pretty much every type of place except a tiny bar or house show haha. Next time they come 'round pull the trigger on a ticket.

that last acoustic set was really fantastic
Misunderstood->War on War->It's Just that simple (John Stirratt was awesome!)->shot in the arm->Space Oddity
That just blew me away, will Nels on the steel lap just going off
So freaking good.  Would have been happy just catching that
I was recently commenting that there are almost no good Bowie covers…this is my new exception
What a great version of Space Oddity…perfect way to end the night

Looks like tiny desk will have a great recording….relaxer did you catch this??

Dang…Atlanta got a killer end of the show

Red-Eyed and Blue
I Got You (At the End of the Century)
Outtasite (Outta Mind)

Encore (acoustic):
Misunderstood
Hate It Here
Casino Queen
Passenger Side
California Stars
A Shot in the Arm
Space Oddity

as hutch aways says…DC got screwed again

So Pissed Jeans was pretty rad last night. Do kids still say rad?

Anyway I'm now totally in love with their guitarist.
Kurt Vile was in good form last night.  The sound lacked punch until halfway through the set, tho.  Can't explain, exactly, but the band sounded dull until after his first "acoustic break". Things improved noticeably at that point.

While I enjoy his albums his vocal style got kind of monotonous. The crowd was DC-style subdued.  Glad I caught him but I'm not sure I'd go see him again anytime soon.
well, darn.  I love him, and is wrong of me to sort of think of him, as my jay reatard soft core rock replacement?
Come to Grief was nasty. They sold out the Sidebar and it was a filthy, crusty show. I Absolutely loved it. Ilsa continues to get better every time I see them too.

Agreed. Expectations for Come to Grief were pretty high and they didn't disappoint. Ilsa was solid, as always. I was there primarily to see D.O.C. and they were the highlight for me.
first time seeing Prince Rama last night and I absolutely loved them.  Love the whole 'now age' aesthetic.

this act has been on my list for a while and things keep coming up when they are here (which is pretty often)
I'm determined to catch them this year

I did not go to see this, I knew it would be a clusterfuck nightmare and the prospect of seeing Wilco in the middle of the day just didn't motivate me enough to walk up the stairs.

don't even say shit like that
it'd be better if you said you had to go to the Dr to get a shot of penicillin
or you for got your Depends and shit your pants 20 mins before they went on

but that you couldn't be bothered to walk up a flight of steps, man that's just rubbing your NPR privilege in our faces
speaking of pbs, I want to know what happened to the little eleven year old girl ("children express" reporter suki chong, I think her name is) who interviewed dan quayle, in the eighties, for what I think was some pbs show. she was ruthless for a kid and I am sure she had to go far in the field.  or she is a teacher ready to retire . . . what do I know.

HeLLO, it's two flights of stairs. And sometimes a man has to ask himself "Do I want to walk up two flights of stairs to see the Pixies play for free? Or do I want to stay right here and finish this monthly budget forecast?" I mean, this status isn't going to report itself!
