Well they were amazing last night at Atlantis.

Glad I finally caught them.

The sound was so so good.

I was surprised to see so few people drinking. It was an older crowd but still. I swear to god I was the only person that went to the bar the entire show!!!

I guess Mercury Rev doesn’t use set lists. Someone stole the Mercury Rev show poster on the wall before I could steal it. I was tired so left after show but pretty sure they came out to sell their merch…..

Saw Nick Cave last night. It's been a while since I saw him, maybe since Skeleton Tree tour.  His voice felt a bit tired last night; jact lacking a bit of his gutteral energy for the classics, but still fun as always. He teased it all night, but no Stagger Lee. 

He has like 15 people up there now so it’s more like a carefully staged production. I doubt there will be any variation in the set list for the US.

I have heard that one of the tricks of the trade is to put everything into the newer songs. The classics sell themselves and people are so happy to hear them that in general they don’t notice a musician holding a little back. I didn’t notice much difference but I was busy gorging my senses. But yeah in a two and a half hour full on performance with you as the focus of every eyeball you are going to pick your spots to rest or let up a little so wouldn’t surprise me.

I WAS surprised at how relatively passive Warren Ellis was….

I read that recently (2023) Nick Cave said he is now a Christian. This show was like a cathartic religious service. He sure has traveled a long ways from the Cramps like scuzz punk of the Birthday Party.

I would be ok never hearing Into my arms again but it had to close the show.

100% agree. I  started heading to the door as soon as he went to the piano for that one.

I agree I have heard in to my arms enough for the rest of my life
I would have melted on the spot if he played stagger Lee. 


I did love a lot of the set, but some of the recent stuff are just so slow and droning.. unlike shows of of the past that were non stop intensity

I thought Warren was doing a fine job up there
But the way Nick had the stage, he was about 20 feet behind and got kinda lost
But he was doing some fun guitar and violin solos


Papa and from her were the pablum I needed
I thought jubilee street was amazing

Jose Andres, was so cool! He's just some crazy passionate chef with a different soul than the chefs we see on television, who's hung with Anthony Bourdain, Nora Pouillon, Patrick O’Connell and so many other masters. He sat most of the time rambling on about the most awesome stories and morales of life. He was funny, then serious poignant and someone who came off so strange to me to hear of a human, who just wants to help others, no matter who they are, because they are humans.

And I found a Washington Blade machine! I haven't seen one of those in ages. I almost felt like I was back at Tracks DC.

Really enjoyed seeing Alison Moyet at the Fillmore. Thank you Grateful for your extra ticket. Grateful! I got there about 7:50, purchased a signed copy of the new record, and as it turned out Grateful was already there fifth row dead center! And not only that somehow he had height-tested everyone in front of us and made sure they were no more than five feet tall! Amazing! My kind of concertgoer!! The show starts and half way into first song an altercation ensues between patrons next to Grateful and a security guy comes in! Who knew Moyet fans were so rowdy? Nobody bottled anyone though…,Anyways back to show. Genevieve is standing 10-15 feet in front of us all in black with two sprockets dudes one on each side in front of a laptop / keyboard thingiemajig; one dude disconcertingly resembled the gay guy from Sex and the City. In fact it was probably him. Occasionally they punched keys and twiddled knobs and occasionally played guitars. Sound was fantastic. Alison did some weird dance moves and drank from two thermos on a little stand next to her. It’s been 40 plus years since those Yazoo records that made Alf’s career and her voice has lost a lot of its punch. On many of the slow songs - and she has loads of them- her voice seemed a bit of a rasp but every so often her magic pipes of younger days of yore would make an appearance not in their full glory but enough to remind you of them. Only You I thought was the highlight. Hearing Situation and Don’t go was like a dream even if I had to go to bathroom before Don’t go encore. It was great seeing her….

'twas indeed a great show. Didn't love the recorded bits and drum tracks, but you take what you can get. Great to see you hutch, and thanks for the beer!
