Fleetwood Mac = way better than you could imagine. Getting to hear "Landslide" and "Songbird" was just spectacular. The best part of the night was Lindsay's guitar solo during "I'm So Afraid". Hands down some of the greatest guitar playing I've seen in my life.
went to that pravafest thing in bethesda/rockville.  pretty weird event.  suburban retail area in an office building that was being built.  I guess the goal was to get people to the area to show off the new chain restaurants and retail outlets?

matmos were great though

I call hyperbole

Naw. Really true. I've seen Townshend, Keith Richards/Ron Wood, Lenny Kaye, Johnny Ramone, J Mascis, Bob Mould, Angus Young, Kerry King, Ron Asheton, Billy Zoom, Jack White, Lou Reed, Kevin Shields, Curt Kirkwood, Thurstoon Moore/Lee Ranaldo, Rick Nielsen, Steve Stevens…I know what a good guitarist does. Lindsay holds his own and if you've ever seen him play, you know the guy has chops. What sets him apart (besides technique) is the emotion that he channels through his guitar. Most guitarists use a pick…he uses his fingers, and the effect is dramatic. My argument is that there aren't a lot of people out there with his style, which is what makes him special. I say this as a person who used to loathe Fleetwood Mac when I was growing up, until I reached a point when I could approach their music with a more objective viewpoint. Unlike a lot of bands that sell a ton of records and don't have the talent to back it up, FM has it in spades.
^ …how hutch would respond if this wasn't a response to his own post

Boom!
no way.. my reply is:

I rescind my hyperbole comment.
Indiepop Prom was a great time although getting there and back was a huge pain. Will definitely go again. Sports were great as that review states and won over the whole crowd. Leggy were just as good as they were when Killsaly and I caught them in December. Amanda X have gotten a lot better. Mannequin Pussy played a very solid set despite their singer Marisa being sick. Priests got their set cut short because the venue usually double books which was a drag. Being at a show in a full suit didn't feel as awkward as I thought it would although it got hot during a few moments. Would recommend over all, though!
Ended up getting last minute tickets to Tedeschi Trucks Band on Friday night.  I can't say I've ever actually listened to them until that night, but what an incredible band!
Yes, they are, indeed. on an unrelated note, I still cannot figure out why I do not like, Warren Haynes.

I'm not a fan either… in general, not a fan of that southern bluesy jam kinda rock.
So Sleater-Kinney were great.  Just as you'd expect.  As I said to a friend, you don't think you can love Janet Weiss any more, and then you do.

Now, the crowd was surprisingly sedate, lackluster even.  I don't get it.  Anyone else notice this? Isn't this a much anticipated reunion show of a band that just put out another solid album (love a few songs on it, not yet loving the album as a whole, but for me Dig Me Out will likely outshine anything else they do).

It will be interesting to see what the Saturday night Philly show is like.  I am now particularly glad I'm going up for it.
And, Carrie really has become a star.  She looked fantastic in a very cool yet somehow also elegant ensemble.  I'm loving it.
What would you expect from a bunch of uptight DC hipsters???
I might have risen to that bait 10 years ago…but not now.  ;)

It really wasn't bait, but that's been a complaint of mine for years in this ole city. Crowds here tend to be pretty, pretty lame.
I've been to lots of Sleater-Kinney shows, and this was unusual.  I sort of know what you're saying, though I don't agree.  That may well be as much a function of the shows I choose as anything to do with DC generally.

Not always…but they can be. Philly, on the other hand, is going to be great. That city loves their sports and their rawk. If I ever have a chance to see shows up there, I go.
yeah..DC crowds….

watchagonnado…watchagonnado? they're pretty hopeless..definitely noticed at the end how too many people took the first chance to leave instead of asking for another song…

totally agree about Janet Weiss… probably the reason i loved my viewpoint the most was that I could see her drumming from up top… she's phenomenal…my favorite drummer…

Carrie is a star for sure….every time she sang it seemed like the excitement level in the crowd went up… she had way too much makeup on though!

but Corin…its her band ….more than anyone….
Philly crowd can be dull or really dull….Union Transfer is a great venue though.

My main issue with Philly crowds are their crustaches and sweat suits.
