That'd be a good thread. Biggest musical turd. My vote would be for Betty, I saw them open for the B-52's at Wolf Trap.

I do miss band member Alyson Palmer tending bar at F St. She was quite the distraction.

Alyson was great.  She was probably my first favorite bartender.  8)

the national @ 930… forget when exactly.  2007?  they were the middle of the bill, forget who the headliner was.

i do remember bumping into brennser on the steps leading to the upper bar and commiserating on how awful they were.

2004 maybe?  The Walkmen/The National/Weird War.   I thought they were fine (but Weird War was better.)  That's the show after which my ears rang for 2 days and I decided I was no longer too cool to wear earplugs.

…….I'm going to the Boston gig and it's been sold out for some time. Hoping the Bostonians are a good crowd.

you weren't by any chance wearing a Feelies t-shirt, were you?

Yup!

ah, well there you go, my first interaction with a boardie…… that I know of….  that was my copy of the setlist you took a photo of after the show…. while we were chatting about all things Feelies and Luna, I recall you mentioning you were going to Boston…..

That's too funny…someone said that half the audience was boardies and they were totally right!

Feelies and Luna related news: Stanley came to the Brooklyn show and sat in on "23 minutes", "Chinatown" and "Friendly Advice"…. and he's a good liar, because I ran into him before the show and asked him if he was going to sit in (like Justin did when they played New Zealand last month) and he said no…. :-)

So funny, I saw Boston last night and was worried it'd be a letdown after that. Somehow the band performed even better. The sold-out crowd was rowdy & very animated & the band seemed to glow in the attention. Hardcore Luna fans. Completely different setlist than DC. The sound at the 9:30 was so full and glorious but the overall performance & setlist at the Paradise was transcendent. Two totally different experiences, both outstanding. Stan is not just a true musician but a lovely guy as well. I'm bummed to have missed seeing him with them but I'm so glad they patched up their issues. Life is too short for grudges.
Assuming Damon and Naomi didn't make an appearance? They're still in Boston I think.
Don't think they are friends.

Yeah me neither.

Doubt a Galaxie 500 reunion will ever happen.
We saw Sun Ra Arkestra at the Richmond Folk Festival Saturday night. We lasted 20 minutes.

My wife's post show banter consisted of "They sounded like eighth graders who just found their instruments." I agreed.

they are definitely not friends…. unless something has changed since the writing of Dean's book….

Modest Mouse at the Black Cat (2000 or 2001), Cat Power at Ottobar (2001/2002ish), Elliott Smith at 930 (same). Those are my worst.

Modest Mouse at MPP opening for REM.
Cat Power in early 2009 with band at the club. Joe and I went and caught Tombs and Dysrhythmia at The Velvet after and it made everything all better.
Bat for Lashes at the Club also in 2009 (just more painfully boring than anything else).

That's funny because I thought Modest Mouse totally redeemed themselves when they opened for REM.

I thought the same thing.  I saw them a bunch live way back, then they got bad on an epic level (the Black Cat show you mentioned).  The MPP show actually convinced me to start going to see them live again because it was such a turnaround from where they were live in the past.
the Celebration / Landshapes / Doomsquad show last night was one of my favorite shows of the year.
I was recovering from a cold and had to skip it.  ??? >:(
Uh oh.
My bad.

It is all good. Who knows where it was from…
Goatsnake was pretty fucking cool. I think I saw every member of Fugazi hanging out. Y DI was really wonky as well. I did not know two members were also in Pure Hell. The singer had one of those Freddy Kruger knife gloves and perhaps was on angel dust. Skeeter Thompson of Scream bought me a drink for some reason so that was nice. This show really did feel like a homecoming for Pete Stahl so the energy in the backstage was palpable. Best time I have had at Black Cat in ages.

I enjoy those times, when that one band comes around, that band that everybody looses their shit over for awhile, at the enjoyment of the forum reader public.
