Post Show Banter >>>>

Pulp gave us what can summarized as a grand performance, definitely more performance than straight concert. Not that's a bad thing.  Ran through many of the hits and that opening of Sorted for E's & Wizz and Disco 2000 set the tone right away.  Seems like they are still getting used to playing the new songs as there were a couple lulls in the set around those songs.  The story about the four of them getting together to considered touring leading into the stripped down version of "Somethings Changed" was a highlight.  I confused the fact that it was bassist Steven Mackey who passed away 2023 with violinist Russell Senior who left the band, which of course explains why only four signatures on the vinyl.

Wish I had worked my way into the balcony for "Common People" to watch how an US audience was reacting to it, as one of the joys of watching any live performance of that song in the UK is watching them absolutely going bonkers for it.  The massive singalong was quite evident the audience was there for it, but I do feel they have milked it a bit more in other shows I've seen online.

Show was close to sold out and considering they haven't played in DC since 1998 and that was when they did Tibetan Freedom Concert and then three songs before Radiohead the night after that at the club.  Another band whose fanbase has grown despite years of inactivity

Would have liked to heard Underwear verses say Joyrider, but the setlist was great otherwise.

Seems like they are poised to go on one of the co-headlining summer tours.  I would mostly likely see them again live, but hard to top Saturday at this point.  Of course it will always be worth to watch your favorite English Professor disco dancing around in high heeled boots..

According to kosmette James turned in a great show as well and they two shows into th tisour dropped the whole playing Laid start to finish and instead interspersed those songs through out their two sets, far more sensible if you ask me.

If you asked me to write down the five songs I'd most want to hear at my first James show, they'd be:

Laid
Sometimes
Sit Down
Born of Frustration
Ring the Bells

They only played the first two. :(

My other comment is that 60+ men look even sillier in skirts than younger men do.
You just have to play Sit down imho.

They didn't do Sit Down last night in Philly, either.

Yes, looks that way. I have no idea how I missed that show and tour.
Absolutely scorching set last night from Superchunk.  I mean, you get used to some songs in the encore (Slack, Detroit), but when they brought those out in the main set (and in the case of Detroit, early)…damn.  The new album is great and the songs sounded amazing.  I think this setlist is right, though I'm still a bit bleary eyed from a late night: https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/superchunk/2025/black-cat-washington-dc-6b4762ee.html

I was hyped to see Tee Vee Repairman and they did not disappoint.  That album was one of my favorites from 2023.  Crowd was eating it up, too.
Rilo Kiley sounded great, but I felt like seeing them live didn't add much to the experience. Don't get me wrong, Jennifer is still indie crush worthy but I could have enjoyed them just as much while doing housework or laying on the couch making out with my wife.

But anyway, I'm sure y'all six want to see this picture.

Good meeting you, Hutch. Albeit briefly, as you were obviously in an official capacity. Next time, let's get a beer and you can show me what's in your bag.
Two hunks
nice pic!

Wow,  a Mag Fields cover and My Gap Feels Weird!!-one of my faves…  Digging what I hear from the Repairpeople.  Thanks for posting.  Sorry I missed it.
Nice finally meeting you Space!
Super fun show last night.  Missed Cinema Hearts…back to school night.  My son's math teacher did have a Sonic Youth poster in his room, which was cool.  He also had an Oasis poster, which was not.

Feel like I've heard of Tchotchke before, but never listened to them.  Really fun set, and a pretty great opener for Hunx.  Their vocal harmonies reminded me of what flowers sound like singing in old cartoons, but I mean that in the best way.  Closed the set with a pretty ripping cover of Egyptian Shumba.

Hunx was a blast.  Short set in a perfect way.  Played maybe half songs from the new album and half older stuff.  Crowd way into it, especially with the wardrobe, uh, changes I guess we'll call it?  My son happened to see me scroll past a story of his on Instagram and told me I was the "gayest straight man in the world".  That might be pretty accurate.

One final note…we all know you don't wear the band's shirt to see the band, etc. etc.  But wearing the shirt of a band member's other band is pretty goofy too.
I not sure I agree with you side project t-shirts take
by your son's take, 'chef's kiss'
good to know Tchotchke are worth seeing live, the singer from the Coral tipped me off on them years ago and their first album has been in rotation since then.  new one out soon
Yeh, as the kid's say…he got my ass

I think it came out a week or two ago, actually.  About to listen now.  That first one is really catchy!

ah lost track of the release date for that one, the vinyl is still considered pre-order so not shipped yet.
Where are the Ryan Adams reviews?
