The 2020 thread....

Or if the markets - betfair and predict it- are small enough I suppose someone could rig it?

Either way Rice’s surge and Harris’ slide have been happening for about 6 weeks now
I think I am mixing this up with unemployment

First time jobless claims can go up but if more people are getting jobs for a given period unemployment numbers can go down
regardless….The total unemployment claims filed since the beginning of the pandemic have moved up to 51 million
we are approaching Great Depression-era unemployment
Jobless claims are tricky too…as there are lots of people who can't qualify for whatever reason that are not being counted

Republicans scrap Trump’s demand for payroll tax cut as they cobble together draft coronavirus bill

this is good news and another ding to Trump

Payroll taxes help so few.  If you are making $20k a year, you are talking $5 a paycheck.  It's absurd to think that is going to help
Oh yeah, if you are uneployed…no benefit for you

The estimates were that the $600 extra the fed gave pumped $50billion right back into the economy and helped on a lot of levels
Landlords were getting rent, people were buying stuff from stores so they could stay in business
Had that not been there, I think this downturn would have been tremendously worse

Republicans are always soo worried that some poor minority is scamming the system
Yes there are few that might not go back to work if the unemployment is higher, but I think the majority of people would rather have a job.  And those jobs are not there, so it's a silly argument

The grift from the corporations (that benefit very few) is soo much larger
Agree on everything

Was just trying to understand

It’s definitely not good and has big implications for 2020 election

Wow…I might have this post framed :)
If one gives a non-apology to AOC, then one should be donning flame retardant  underwear…

She’s great…bright future
This is encouraging even if I know it’s closer than this and also some Trump voters will come back to him…

The more havoc covid reaps on a state I think the worst Trump chances..what is happening in AZ, GA, FL and TX spells trouble
I just fear that this will get Trump even more hell bent on burning it all to the ground and taking the country with him
me neither
Bass has been in Congress for ten years. She’s spent the last two chairing the Congressional Black Caucus

Ok, I'd like to retract my error
the true number is a person making $20k a year would get $57.6 a pay check
It is also true that the employer also doesn't have to pay that equivalent to the government, so money saved for employers too

Still don't think it's a good idea, just don't like having errors out there

I never read any specific proposal, but those calculations assume elimination of the payroll tax. I had (perhaps incorrectly) that there would just be a cut…either way, it would be effectively useless to everybody.
Labron helping to hook up the FL felons

this is TERRIBLE news - we have to assume they're going to vote for their own, i.e. trump, right?

All joking aside, if big money Dem super PACs were smart they would take every cent they’re setting on fire in Kentucky, and spend it on this (and similar) effort(s).
