The 2020 thread....

Paragraph 1: The "expected blue wave" (winning florida, winning texas, winning Ohio, "SOUTH CAROLINA IS IN PLAY") is something we started thinking about in earnest around the time of Debate #1. My whole point is, for all the madness, we reverted to probably the most Frank Turner-esque predictions in 2018.

Paragraph 2: OK, "wire to wire" is maybe not accurate. Biden was the favorite in 2018, he was the favorite all of 2019, there maybe existed 2 weeks where people questioned if Joe Biden would be the nominee. And again, to your point, this FEELS like so much happened, but it was literally super static the entire time.

Paragraph 3: Didn't say it was always hers to lose. I'm saying she was the  favorite for the VP spot as soon as it was clear it was Biden, and it did turn up being her. This is my point – this all kinda went exactly to script.

someone just texted me that "Fox has called Penn in favor of Biden, president-elect to address nation tonight" - can anyone confirm??
Not on my TV.
The amount of emails I've received from the Ossoff campaign for the $10 I sent them a few months ago is really not proportional
I would say easily over 100
Interesting stat
While Arlington went 80.73% for Joe

Precinct: 011 - EAST FALLS CHURCH - went for trump
Biden  156   47.56%
Trump 159   48.48%

That's not even North Arlington!

https://results.elections.virginia.gov/vaelections/2020%20November%20General/Site/Locality/ARLINGTON_COUNTY/President_and_Vice_President.html

I think this is only in person Election day votes…as 2016 stats for 011 went 74% for Hillary
That’s a few blocks from where I am typing…2 precincts over…

I am not sure about north Arlington vs south Arlington

To me it’s pretty obvious Arlington is divided by Columbia Ave into N and S

But I guess you are saying the most Tony part of Arlington closer to the Potomac is a neighborhood you call “North Arlington”

When I am describing where I live I call it Westover right next to East Falls Church Metro and the opposite corner from Sidehatch over in South Arlington..

This. It's this. Everything else in your list added together is not as impactful as this.

so there was an interesting piece on NPR this morning about why latinos electoral behavior didn't match what the polls predicted.  among the reasons:
- pollsters tend to over-emphasize college-educated latinos, and under-represent non-college latinos
- pollsters do a terrible job of contacting folks who don't speak english, or who prefer to interact in spanish.
- the latino population is younger than the general US population.  applying the averages and curves of the former to the latter will yield unrepresentative results, but (some) pollsters do it anyways.
I hadn’t seen this til now but this is what I am saying

Edit: ok a lot of that article is terrible but the gist of it is correct… anyone expecting Biden to appoint extremists to his cabinet is in for a rude awakening and Biden is going to try to work with Mitch and anyone he can find

you know nothing about Arlington even though you probably have close to 20 years in it

It's like the crypts and the bloods…and the real border is rt 50

You are west Arlington…but NW to be certain, because rt 50
Not quite as posh as the Northern Suburbs, but less multicultural and less subsidized housing then deep south of Arlington…where the real arlintonions live…where Inner Ear Stuido is!

Did you see that Arlington was a $1000 Jeopardy question a few weeks ago

Joe Biden's lead in Pennsylvania has grown to 28,883 votes.

is this a done deal then?
Republican Sen. David Perdue and Democrat Jon Ossoff will face off in a Jan. 5 runoff in Georgia for Perdue’s U.S. Senate seat

Man if we had all that money we spent in FL, SC and KY…and saved it for these GA races
Robert Reich@RBReich
Please don’t forget that the GOP prevented 750,000 predominately Black Floridians from participating in this election
.

This is true…not sure that 4ook would have shown up and voted…but that 65% of the voters in Florida passed a ballot measure to allow those people to vote.  And the GOP halved the number with the tip of a pen.
Should we thanking Jo for Joe?
Question:

Has it ever taken anyone as long as it took Biden to be elected president? By my count he first ran in 1988 so 32 years?

That’s persistence
CNN calls it for Joe Biden

And ABC, NBC and CBS!!!
oh shit, just lost a finger trying to do that champagne/saber thing (the key is to super chilling the neck, not the bottom)
Nice to know that's behind us
Fox has called it too.
