The 2020 thread....

hmm this future/present thing may have impacted your decision making process…

Julián Castro endorses Elizabeth Warren for president

And why the fuck not….Lincoln Chafee files to run for president as a Libertarian
he may pull some of the old school GOP'ers who were really libertarians the whole time
Nobody is going to pull anybody from Trump…..every scintilla of evidence points to that…Jesus Christ could run and every Republican (including “evangelicals”) would vote Trump

Good for Julian..looks like a desperate attempt by Warren to stop/revert the slide …otherwise she would have kept the endorsement in her back pocket until a week before Iowa

Bloomberg drops $10 mil on a 60 second superbowl ad
Good for Bloomberg

I like him…always have

It’s a horribly weak field with koo koo for Cocoa Puffs (heart attack) Bernie, ga ga Biden, Pocahontas and the guy from Mad magazine

I would happily vote for Bloomberg

He's got an interesting strategy to avoid the first 4, no debates and just focus on super Tuesday
I do like the Mayor and most things he stands for
I do think he would have no problem in a face to face debate with Trump…as I fear our current front runners will crumble

not to get outdone
President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign is planning to drop $10 million to advertise during the Super Bowl

I'm surprised he didn't buy 4 ads
guy is soo thin skinned it's unbelievable

Hmmm…so not sure of the order of events…
"The biggest point is getting under Trump's skin," Bloomberg spokesman says of buying a $10 million Super Bowl ad
this is good news towards getting the senate blue
Poll: Democrat Mark Kelly leads incumbent McSally in Arizona Senate race
wow, this is quite a haul
ActBlue, an online fundraising platform for Democrats and progressive groups, pulled in $1.05 billion in campaign contributions for the party’s candidates and causes in 2019.

although I think some of this went almost directly to the Dem Campaigns who also claim this on their balance sheet
wonder how much of that is small money donations

update- The average contribution was $30.50.
Can someone tell me why the Dems keep with this Primary schedule

1. caucus, while on paper sound like a great idea…are just a disaster
2. Iowa, NH, SC, NV as the first four…yikes
3. I think the Dems should be doing ranked choice voting in primaries

saw this and it depresses me

@HoarseWisperer
In Iowa, approximately 30% of registered voters are Democrats.
Of that number, approximately 15% participate in caucuses.

4.5% of Iowa’s population participates in the Dem caucus.

Hardly representative of the state let alone the country.

what world does it make sense that this should be the Dem's first primary?

Julian from the Past complained exactly about this when he suspended his campaign.  he was banking on capturing a large portion of the non-white vote, yet the launchpads for the nomination - iowa and new hamphire - are two of the whitest states in the union.  bloomberg seems to think he can pull it off without those first 2 states (actually first 4 states, since he isn't on those ballots) but realistically no one has ever won the nom without being first or second in the first 2 states.

well no one has ever skipped the first 4, so it's hard to tell if this strategy will work
few spare bil in the bank doesn't hurt

Ask Florida, circa 2008…they may have some thoughts on the issue.

whoa…news to me…gosh 2008 seems like when we were using rotary phones and getting off the couch to change the channel
The Florida Democratic Presidential primary took place on January 29, 2008.

However, the Democratic National Committee determined that the date of the Florida Democratic Primary violated the party rules and ultimately decided to sanction the state, stripping all 210 delegates and refusing to seat them at the convention.
later…agreed to seat all of Florida's delegates with each delegate having only receive half a vote

I do remember DC tried to do something like that too and the DNC went ballistic

Now I can understand the RNC wanting Iowa first…but Iowa is hardly representative of the DNC
what is their logic for the order?
That is what decided the primary…there was a DNC meeting in DC to decide how to deal with FL and I think MI having jumped the gun

I was on Obama’s side…I remember Clinton surrogate Lanny Davis and I yelling at each other at the hotel

Good times

I believe that

also interesting that you are mentioned in this quote
“Lanny Davis has a unique combination of extensive experience as a first-rate practicing attorney and expertise in dealing with the media, political leaders, Hutch, and the legislative process. That’s much needed in the age of the internet and get it first before getting it right journalism.”
-President William Jefferson Clinton
He is the worst..which made it doubly funny when democrats where hailing him for representing Cohen…but I remember it like it was yesterday…one of us was on the escalator and I started yelling and heckling him and he yelled back at me…I think he yelled fuck you or fuck off…pure class

I never liked Bill Clinton…never bought the hype….he was a sleaze and had some real sleazes in his entourage…Hillary eventually got rid of Lanny but she still didn’t win!!

The day after Obama won presidency I was in line at Post to get souvenir newspaper and who pulls in parking lot next to Post (some law offices)…yeah Lanny
didn't see that coming…going to be a weird primary people

Are you referring to Steyer's numbers?

Are you referring to Steyer's numbers?

Yes, steyer (although I've probably followed his campaign the least)
Sorry, thought that was obvious, but can see how it might not
whoa…the definition of putting your money where your mouth is (helps if you have a lot of money)
Mike Bloomberg will pay for the nearly 500 staffers on his presidential campaign to continue working through November to support whoever wins the 2020 Democratic nomination, even if it's not him.
