Just Announced Commentary - 2011 Edition

Could Haircult 100 play as well….wait…nevermind.
Just announced: Cult Ritual reunion late night set!
Janelle Monae why isn't she at the 9:30 club….I wanna get my dance on.  ;D
yes.  interlocken.  i heard it has a new name, but i dont call things new names, like nissan.  is anybody going from here, or is this something that anybody even would be remotely interested in?  i feel the music is pretty special with chances of some serious moments in "rock and roll history printed in the pages of rolling stone" in my opinion.  but im not sure how to look at the drug aspect of these festivals anymore.  i do ignore it and pay attention at the same time.  they are there and those are there who want to do it, and it is illegal.  just because you like the drugs, does not change the fact that they are illegal and you will/could get fucked if you are caught with them.  that is the chance you take.  that does not make the law wrong, it just means you have to choose to take that chance.  pot has been illegal forever for so many reasons, but one of them is because it is unfiltered smoke and it will kill you.  you hear me you stoners out there . . . it will kill you.  there and you know it is true but you dont care.  i had to quit for that reason only, for i did love the stuff.  other drugs like mushrooms and lsd and cocaine and ecstasy and heroin and pills and crystal and whatever else, are like ticking time bombs in certain people.  that is why i do not know how to look at the drug aspect of music festivals.  i believe that people should have the right to try them and realize that you could lose everything if you continue, before they make the decision to go in either direction.  it is not a secret that a lot of people cant, or do not want to be sober at concerts, whether by alcohol or harder stuff.  im not sure how to look at that either, because i like to drink at concerts.
That's OK. I still call it People's.
i am refusing to google that . . . but rather attempt to figure it out on my own; dont tell me.
The first Fiona Apple Lincoln Theatre show just refuses to sell out!
well the ticket price is outrageous and it's her 3rd time playing in the area :)
Yes, but I want to go on the 26th, so D.C. needs to man up and buy up the last row on the balcony.

As in Steve Lambert needs to be kicked in the balls.

what's the problem here, JF?  lambert's a dick, and his venues suck to boot.

I get the Lambert hate, I really do.

But..

I'm asking this seriously, is there a viable alternative to him booking the size venues he's booking in DC?

I mean, the last two Metz shows, last two FOTL shows, Lightning Bolt, the Sword, Diarrhea Planet, etc were all at his venues.  Lots of stuff I really enjoyed - granted would've been better in better venues.  Would these have skipped DC?
Not necessarily.

Between BC, Comet and the ever-growing list of DIY spaces, I think most, if not all of those would have been covered. And the Diarrhea Planet shows up to now (unless there is one I don't know of) (not counting the upcoming one) were at the Cat and DIY spots. All are better options than DC9 and The Blowtel.
Baltimore!
Wait, DC9 sucks now too? Dammit!

Good to know.. let the hate continue to flow, ha.  I really didn't know how much pull the DIY places had.  Agreed there are more everyday and they are attracting really good stuff.

As for DP, yeah, misspoke on that one.  Confused previous shows i've seen with the one next Tuesday at DC9, which i just got tickets for so it was fresh on the brain.

i guess just the booker. lambert doens't own dc9, right?

it does get super crowded on sell-outs.  tough layout.

I've had an encounter or two with a couple unsavory security staff there. Also, the polling. And the stupid way they sell tickets on the stairs. The sound guy seems pretty cool though.
Unsavory encounter? Ooooh, do give details!

My only gripe with the place.  Well, that and my perhaps irrational fear that the floor is about to give way. Everything else is fine, tho.
That fear is more apt for Velvet. Now there is a scary floor.

Yeah do they still have them? Those are great because you at most have to go to the stand twice in one day and two they are so tasty.

I got one on Sunday night of this year's Lolla because I thought it would be a very "seeing the Cure" thing to do.  Crazy expensive for cheap shitty wine, but life is short I guess.

The empty bottle also comes in handy when you are packed in the center of the crowd and don't want to leave for the bathroom.
