Just Announced Commentary - 2011 Edition

I hate to write this as Dean Wareham has been one of my favorite musicians for a very long time but it’s been a while since anything by him has really impressed me. I would say the last Luna records and the two Dean and Britta albums (plus the Warhol project) are the last things I have truly loved by him. Maybe a cover here or there. He has gotten into this Lee Hazelwood or Hazlewood rut where the music is just so damn slow. He’s gotten very far away from the Velvet Underground-like stuff that hooked me. Can anyone say his last four solo efforts even begin to remotely approach the greatness of Penthouse?

I think I have seen him live somewhere around 14 times which probably puts him in third place after Bob Dylan and GBV. From now on unless it’s a Luna nostalgia show am going to pass. I think his creative spark is gone.

It’s hard to remember but I think my top acts are
1. Bob Dylan 25
2. GBV 20
3. Luna and related 14
4 Ween and related 13
5. Wilco and related 12
6. Pavement and related 10
7. Nick Cave / Dead related but not GD 8
9. JSBX / Smithereens 7
11. YLT / Lucinda Williams / Franz Ferdinand / Willie Nelson 6
15. Paul Simon / Phish related/ Jack White related 5

And that’s the story of my life

I think we had a thread once where we laid out what bands we've seen the most…
Yeah I think I started that thread….

I kind of like trying to remember…and i never kept physical track

Going to need to add one more Dylan visit this September…

For me it's definitely gonna be Bob Mould, Feelies, Belle and Sebastian, Pixies. I've seen Interpol a bunch too, and Social Distortion.

Pogues info

As for the lineup of the group, it will include original members Jem Finer, Spider Stacy, and James Fearnley, plus Lankum‘s Darragh Lynch (guitar), Iona Zajac (vocals/harp), singers Lisa O’Neill and Nadine Shah, The Pretenders‘ James Walbourne (guitar), John Francis Flynn (vocals / multiple instruments), Jordan O’Leary (banjo), Alfi’s Fiachra Meek (pipes/whistles), The Bad Seeds‘ Jim Sclavunos (drums), and Holly Mullineaux (bass). There’s also a brass section featuring Pete Fraser, Daniel Hayes, and Ian Williamson.

and James Welbourne sings with His Lordship and The Rails
I wish the Pogues show included Cait!
I feel like Bill Clinton’s popularity has really plummeted since 2007….

The Obamas are still popular but who knows in a decade how they will be viewed?

Why not a 930 fest, that runs at all IMP venues for one weekend

Isn’t that like every weekend?

no that's just a one show with openers at each venue

My vision is you buy a fest pass  ($150?) that would get into all the venues and shows would start at 10 AM and go to 10PM
so each venue could have 10 acts play 40 min sets
could even have an hourly shuttle bus between the venues
could be 40 acts playing across the DC venues in one day or 80 acts over two days

it would be difficult with Atlantis and don't know if everyone should be asked to leave the venue after each set and get back in line again at the same venue?

Also, I feel like the ref is being too lenient to zuppi pizzaboli, as he knows a second yellow will eject him for the season
and zuppi pizzaboli is taking advantage of that
Hopscotch in Raleigh is what you want.

Oh, OK – are we starting the board's erotic fan fiction era, finally? Because I've got the first few chapters of a TheDirector/Sweetcell My Own Private Idaho thing that's would just drain Walkie's loins dry . . .
