This was 1996, I think…

The peak of the "kids will mosh to anything" era.

Remember the Cranberries show at the Washington Monument that got curtailed mid-set due to moshing?

YES. I was there. In the front. That all started because some dumb girl would not get off her boyfriend's shoulders and people started throwing shit at her. It was the only day I cut school. Last day of my senior year!

Great.  Now I will be singing "Step outside, and let the man go through" all day.

Thanks a lot.

You're welcome.
so all the IMP shows that used to go to DAR now go to Echostage?

Echostage has got to be better, right?

I'm guessing that the sound will be superior there. Interpol's sound man HATED working DAR, said it was one of the most challenging rooms he's ever been in. So that alone has got to be a step up. It's kinda hard to put on a cool rock show at DAR. I'm guessing it's a nice alternative to Merriweather too. Bands like New Order, Belle and Sebastian, and Queens of the Stone Age can bring in a good amount of people but not enough to fill Merriweather. I haven't been to Echostage yet but I'll be going to B&S so I'll be curious to see how it is.

Do you take your Maserati out to these types of events?
A little ostentatious for the occasion.  I'll probably slum it in the Range Rover.
Echostage is huge. It's almost a bigger version of 930 Club. Stage, huge floor area, bars on the left and right side of the floor, then a balcony surrounding the floor. Only thing with the balconies are, to get up against the rail you have to order a table. Upstairs there are also bars. I have only been there for "EDM" shows though, maybe they change the table area for live shows…. Not sure though.

I've heard that the capacity is anywhere from 3,000 to 6,000 people…what's your guess? There's a big difference between those 2 estimates.

6,000 is the capacity several websites list. Never seen another # anywhere.
A few links on the web indeed mention 3000.

I thought it was upwards of 5000. Maybe it's different for different shows? Like I said, I've only been for EDM shows so maybe for live shows it's different. Every time I have been it has been packed wall to wall. Also, I've only witnessed shows from backstage so I'm not sure how the crowd experience is. And I hate all "EDM" crowds, so I'm sure those crowds suck. As for live shows I'd expect it be your typical live crowd. And the sound is VERY loud.
so who owns Echostage? Does IMP rent it out for events? I'm guessing we may have seen the last IMP show at DAR.
well it sounds like a great development..no more DAR shows for IMP AND a shifting of many shows at Merriweather (the ones of interest) to DC

win win
^ what are you referring to?  I think the Merriweather is too big for a band like B&S. Echostage is much more appropriate.

I agree..

This is why I said its a "win win"!

Most people from DC don't want to drive all the way to Columbia… more shows that would have been at Merriweather going to Echostage is a good thing.
Well I'd rather drive to Merriweather. Shows in DC area are not only for DC people.
Because Echostage is super convenient to get to!
