I still think $20 for a DJ set is absurd but guess we are a dying breed.

My point is, I STILL think paying $20 to see a DJ is absurd. Calvin Harris played a set that I could have. I mean, I literally could have. I have all the songs he played. People paid $80 pretty much just to look at the guy. This was 5000+ people crammed in there like sardines. It's fucking insane.

Daft Punk gets paid a ton of money live and they basically just press play.  I saw Diplo and Bassnectar DJ at Lolla one year and they sounded awesome.  Of course I drank two bottles of wine by that point but still i had fun.  I guess I would pay over 20 bucks for them if I were in the proper mood.  Well who am I kidding I spent 20 bucks to go to clubs in Atlantic City to dance all night.

Daft Punk definetely don't "just press play" but, feel free to be that ignorant. David Guetta has himself admitted that he HAS "just pressed play" but that it was because there was "pyrotecnics" that were part of his show that were choreographed with his set….. THAT being said, I've been on stage with Diplo while he DJs and he DOES actually DJ, like a lot of other people. I paid $30 or whatever to see Major Lazer at the Club not too long ago. I think it's ridiculous, but I've followed Major Lazer since day 1 and their live "show" is incredible.

The empty bottle also comes in handy when you are packed in the center of the crowd and don't want to leave for the bathroom.

so you're that kind of guy…..
OK So what is Daft Punk doing on stage?  Playing hardware synths?  Mixing pre-recorded tracks through a mixer?
pissing into empty bottles

Have you guys ever seen Simian Mobile Disco live? It's essneitally the same thing. They take all the equipment they used to produce the album and go on tour and re-create the experience live. So, it's just like a band with all their instruments, but they use synths and pads and what not.

If you can delve deeper into it there's an interview that breaks down what each guy does, one works the music and the other works the visuals seen on the pyramid and screens. Pretty cool! Made me appreciate their live show even more.
I've seen Fat Boy Slim at the 9:30 and other venues and he is a DJ that not only plays records but actually looks at the audience and interacts.  his shows are always a blast and never just a run through of his hits.  I would pay $30 to see him again

AP is getting sloppy

"NIN closed the night with a slow and smoky cover of Johnny Cash's "Hurt," which earned nonstop cheers from the crowd."

I agree with you… but its kind of like Otis Redding and when he heard Aretha's cover of his song (Respect, of course) and said "She took my song!" or some such…

Cash owns that song now…
Hahahahhahaha no fucking way.

Edit: that was in response to the AP story, not to Hutch!
Three more shows coming up.

My crew, FAR EXP, will be playing at the Brooklyn Wildlie Festival on 8.7.13. Headlined by Buckshot of Black Moon/Duck Down Records.

The Adams Morgan Day Festival is on 8.8.13 and my crew, FAR EXP, will be hosting and performing at The Belmont Stage on 18th and Belmont. Everyone who can make it, come thru and say what's up. We'll be there from 12pm-8pm.

And my crew, FAR EXP, be performing again at Velvet Lounge rocking with the homie Big Lo from Pensacola, FL. I'll be playing some beats I made and you'll love it. Trust me.

but in all seriousness, that's a cool event.

the 930 lineup is stacked. not a huge doug loves movies fan, but i like him outside that.  tig is great, and i saw wyatt a few years back, and i thought he was fantastic.

what on earth do you get for $30 with ira glass though?

I didn't know Doug Lovs Movies was a thing, I'll have to look it up. He's hilarious. Can't wait to see what else they announce!
if you like movies, and you like doug benson, it's probably a wonderful podcast for you.

i'm not a huge movie guy.

and if any1 hasn't heard the tig cancer set, check it out.
I think BYT finally got a managing editor with legit journalism cred.
Or at least I was told that.

You mean posting photo galleries of your coked-up underwear indie rock parties DOESN'T constitute legitimate journalism???

oh that's cool.  dc definitely can benefit from an outfit like them, it's just been painful over the years seeing their amateur schtick.

regardless, one thing i have really appreciated over the years was the awesome photos they take at shows. and it was super hilarious watching the photographer at the diarrhea planet show in the middle of the moshpit trying to snap pictures.

Oh, hey, as well. I did not realize who you were until after the fact. I figured you were a boardie when you spun around in your chair and appeared to choke on your drink when I introduced myself to Kosmo.
Az was drinking?!?! Or drinking a soda?

I thought it was weird that Sean (from Fan Death Records) is writing a weekly thing for BYT now, so I started reading his posts.  Haven't really given the rest of the site  a chance.

I assumed everyone there was drinking G & Ts. May have just been Sweets and myself.
