Just Announced Commentary - 2011 Edition

and frank turner before yo la tengo.  i'm leaving soon.
Anyone know if Mumford and Sons gets played on WAMU?  It being one of the few stations that play bluegrass.

Mumford and Sons fans seem to have the same thin skin as Coldplay fans do….

I don't know but they get played on WTMD (Towson University station) quite a bit.

I love Coldplay.  And Muse.

Perhaps people have thin skin about bands that they know others love and whom put out great album after great album (well maybe the last Muse album wasn't all that good) and you have people insult their taste because they read some dumb review on pitchfork that put the album down.  They actually think they are smarter than someone else because of the music they like.

If you don't like Coldplay that is fine but they put out awesome albums with fine pop songs on them.  And put on wonderful live shows.  And then you have bands  like Radiohead who haven't put out a decent song in 10 years and put on dreadfully boring live shows and the same people kiss their azz from here to next week.

arguements such as these are why i come in here

i like coldplay . . . god i love coldplay.  chris is cute yes, but i like the drummer the best.  really.  but i love the dead kennedys too, and ween, and widespread panic and phish, and prince, and dinosaur, and jesus jones, and dylan, and rupaul.

the point being . . . who cares.
I tried really hard to care, but realized my tastes can be called in to question too….

I think the whole thing is genetic in regards to what music you like.  I would say there aren't too many bands I have heard from Sweden or Iceland that I don't like.  And I love most Scotish Bands.  Music isn't literature.  It doesn't come down to intelligence. You just like what you like.

All this bullshit about this is cool and that is not is just nonsense.  Nothing you can say could ever convince me that Wilco is a better band than the Cocteau Twins.  Or that Kanye West is better than Coldplay.  Or Bob Dylan is better than the Supremes.  I am going to like what I like and I would certainly not ever feel embarrassed about what i like.

And pitchfork giving scores of 2's, 3's and 4's to bands like Coldplay, Muse, and Mumford and Sons is comical.  And just makes them  look like idiots.  A 2 out of 10?  Please.  They are singing in tune and writing their own songs.
Its fine to like what you like..but if others are also free to like what they like why do you call it crap?

Does Perry Farrell have even close to a similar voice left? Is Eric Avery a part of the band? Have they put out anything remotely decent in the past 20 years?

The answer to these questions is no.

The more garbage they put out, the more I realize how important Avery was to the band.
Didn't Seth say once that he gets bands on their way up and on their way down? This is one of those down bands.

Yeah, I can't think of any other band who nosedived so completely when the bassist departed.
Saw Janes Addiction when they played Baltimore. They were great and played mostly old stuff.  Maybe only 1 or 2 newer songs.

Porno for Pyros put out two great albums.  It is not like how Avery left the band one day and the band output sufffered the next.
