I saw pavement at lollapalooza (I think at Charlestown) and remember the crowd picking up dirt and grass and throwing it them on stage, booing them. They were great and the crowd sucked. I want to say they left the stage early due to the dirt throwing but can't really remember.

I was there, too. This incident is well-documented in the Pavement DVD "Slow Century". It was kind of shocking. Courtney Love called Stephen Malkmus the "Grace Kelly" of rock. And of all the bands to turn on and throw mud at… The angry mob wants what the angry mob wants. Who else played that? Hole? Sonic Youth? The Bosstones and Dinosaur Jr.? Did Elastica play? I remember trying to take a nap and being impressed by the new music from one-hit wonder Beck Hansen.
Listen, Malkmus is fine. I just personally think he's snotty and elitist. I'd rather hear a Spiral Stairs solo record.
Or even one from the horse-gambling drummer.

The Malkmus discography is damn near perfect, I'd recommend hanging up your work boots and Oregon trail outfits and taking a listen.
WTF are you talking about? Perfect? How's grad school, Yada? Stephen Malkmus solo is the sound of one hand jerking off.
Brian
Brian, I'd expect a much better response from you.
his solo songs kind of do sound like a gigantic circle jerk
also, i appreciated brian limiting his response to less than 100 words for once.
One hand jerking off vs. a gigantic circle jerk… Walky and I approve.
Brian, you have a wealth of knowledge for things you dislike.
did malkmus play baltimore in baltimore?

i did catch him in buenos aires in 2002 though…and the pavement reunion… and two or three pavement shows in the 90s.. i'm definitely going to the black cat show ..i think its going to be cool seeing him in such a small venue..weird he's not at u street hall though….. its as if there was a short circuit between him and IMP or something….. he's been playing IMP shows in DC since the first one i think…

i have seen dinosaur so many times . . . and i do not approve of this new dinosaur live process, where j refuses to play anything after he kicked their asses to the curb. and i only hate lou in dinosaur. love him anywhere else. isnt that weird?
I had the misfortune to see Lou Barlow in Dinosaur Jr at the Ottobar in 2007 or so. It was awful. I did see J Mascis play by himself before playing Dinosaur Jr songs and it was pretty amazing. I am thinking that Lou Barlow sucks.
I like how people on this board are talking about some Malkmus show at the Black Cat when the show of all time is happening at the Floristree. So out of touch.
I will be in Oklahoma City during the Floristree show.
I am also not so excited for Malkmus even if I haven't seen him in years… I didn't bother to listen more than once his last few albums, not because I don't like it, but there are things I like more.

Gene Clark covers are breaking all kinds of new ground.

This is a joke, right? The show of all time is Floristree?
;D
personally what I find pitiful are people who simply go to shows because they are "trendy"…

What? I hate to tell you this but Malkmus solo stuff sucks balls. The sooner you and everyone lets him know this by not attending his shitty solo shows the sooner he stops touring solo and gets back together with Pavement again.
And you wonder why this is the show of the century? Anyway I am hardly going to the show because it was trendy. I have seen Beach House shows with 30 people at them. And Wye Oak as an opener at many small club show and Celebration as well. Loved Fleet Foxes before anyone else. I love good music.
And Floristree is not a show it is a venue. A venue that lets you bring your own beer.

if you have a problem with alcohol now is the time to start making those new year's resolutions atomic
Atomic, will you be at Celebration on Friday? Also, if you haven't seen Katrina's other band, Mt Royal, they play the Ottobar on 2/1.
I love, love, love Katrina Ford! She is probably my all time favorite female vocalist!

No I won't be able to make the Celebration show. I will try to see Mt Royal. Are they similar in sound to Celebration?
