Just Announced Commentary - 2011 Edition

For $28.50x2+babysitter costs, i'm more inclined to see him with a band than without.

And in the months ahead, he'll play a series of bare-bones solo dates– just him and a guitar.

That quote is from 2011.

I'm guessing band, but in general… would it make a difference?? Would you not see him if he was with a band vs. solo?
doesn't say Kurt Vile & the Violators, so it's most likely solo.

The question is, is that Vile's whole band or a solo show?

Figured I'd ask this again?

Shucks.
I've seen Kurt Vile twice solo and twice with band and prefer solo. Velvet DNA Test Fest and Red Onion shows were both fantastic. First band show was a little shaky but they tightened up drastically and sounded much better the second time.
I don't think you have to hang out with 20-somethings…If you lived here in your 20's you've heard at least one of these. Yet, just go out at happy hour or a show and you will hear similar commentary. Funny how the area hasn't changed much aside from the cupcake invasion. I think it's hilarious. And the guy looks like Justin Jones.

Phew! And here I was thinking that I was getting drunk off of your beer drinking post.

noooooooooooooooooooooooo - wait for me!!!

Damn it: http://music.msn.com/florence/

I don't believe they've played the D.C. area since the 9:30 show where they open for the Temper Trap.
There is only one show scheduled between May 3rd in New Orleans and May 11th in Connecticut. (May 8th- NY)

They can still add DC and Philly dates within that stretch, or at the end of the tour after Atlantic City on the way back south.

I bet she adds more dates once Bonnaroo gets announced…

This one has me torn. Wonder what sort of a mix will be in his set? Mostly new stuff, I would assume but also a bit leery for fear that it might be too evil demon sounding for all the bother it would take me to get there.

Weird how this guy's music either sounds like a gift from the gods or the shoegaze from Hell.

Have to go study our events calendar to see what the likelihood is that I can reasonably request a little bulk of time off to come up for the show.

If you do come down for the dc or Baltimore shows, let me know and I will go to the one you go to.

Did you stay for two nights?? Beers at the Quarry House?

yes.  no.  not a fan of bars anymore.  i don't need to pay the bartender's rent at a overpriced place filled with people who are assholes to strangers unless they are women and they think they can get into their pants.  fuck them.  i party with my friends pre/during/post.  we bring what we want, we have what we want.

and you were right . . . the selection of beer at the fillmore was shit.  but say what you want about the place, to the average joe schmo person who might want to go see a concert . . . fillmore is a bettter all around venue.  not everybody is hardcore and doesn't care where the venue is, or how how dirty the venue appears because "this is rock n roll."  those days are gone.  the cbgb lifestyle is dead.  people want easy, people want nice, people want to "feel" safe.  sorry, that's the way it is.

you wouldn't believe how many people i heard say the following:

"after coming to the fillmore . . . i don't think i'll see another show in dc, unless i have to."

So what did you do in Silver Spring for 48 hours?? You obviously had to have dined and drank somewhere during that time frame and it wasn't Chickfila!

I'm not arguing with the asthetics of the Fillmore, if only they would book decent acts I'd support it just like I do any other venue. Unfortunately when your calendar only has a dozen events on it and they're awful bands, I won't be dropping much money into their coin purse, partner.

the part of town that the fillmore was in . . . i felt safe walking down the sidewalk all fucked up at three in the morning.
if i told you what we did for two days . . . i would have to kill you.  ;D

Hmmm……. Walkie did go to a couple of Widespread Panic shows. Maybe he took a side trip up to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore which could explain his rather pleasant mood today.
