Damn. Drove that highway from Santa Barbara to Santa Cruz (before turning onto 17 on my way to the Bay Area) in November 2019. Hype is well earned.

umm don't drive south this weekend
3 or 4 years ago my folks moved to the Central Coast of CA and I have been chomping at the bit to make the drive down there via 1 (with the family in the car we take 101). PCH has been a revolving door of open and close since then because of fires, landslides and now this cliff giving way. I was crushed to see it closed again and it looks like it will be for a while. Again.
However, on my weekend drives south I rarely go past Santa Cruz, let alone Monterey so this won't impact that much.

Nice work. You squeezed that right in there - It was closed from spring 2017 to summer 2018 (landslide), then most of fall 2018 and fall 2019 from the fires.

we drove Napa to LA Sept 18 to celebrate our 20th anniversary - amazing trip / views - highly recommend the Post Ranch Inn
Of course, Post Ranch Inn is awesome…at $1000 a night only Yada can afford it

Just a stroke of luck that my friend's wedding in SB was that month. Visited Fremont, my birthplace, afterwards. First time back after having moved to Maryland in 1977. Yes, 42 years away. Hell of a mind trip. Visited Sunol, then watched nervously last year as one of the biggest fires nearly took it out (came within a mile).
Even visited a bowling alley of my youth, Cloverleaf Bowl. It had been around since the early 1960s. The land owners wanted to kick them out and sell the land for housing but they fought back. Then COVID hit and forced their hand.

Washed out. Highway 1, south of Big Sur, shutdown to thru traffic after the road crumbled into the Pacific Ocean. This is at Mile Marker 30 near Big Creek Bridge.
The Central Coast took the biggest beating from this week's storm. https://bit.ly/3coEXUw

Possible AMZ National Landing design

Crystal City always did look like shit
Now I want some soft-serve…
Looks pretty cool, although it seems like a rather inefficient use of space. For the same square footage, a plain box building would probably be three stories.

yeah that building is cool, but 98% of their offices are plain, brick boxes like any other downtown office building. amazon isn't always that cool.
Felons in VA getting voting rights! (well not yet..but pretty much)
in Virginia today.
A Senate committee voted to advance a bill (10 to 4) that would enable all adult citizens to vote, & abolish felony disenfranchisement.

VA getting things done. No executions, felon voting rights reinstated and soon-to-be legal weed.
Here in MoCo things ain’t getting done.

I thought felons in Virginia got voting rights renewed a long time ago.
