TIL about the 8" floppy

(yes they have a pill for that now)
I actually added a USB floppy disc drive to my library's collection of circulating equipment, and it's been checked out a couple of times. It's a cheap device (>$30) and sometimes you just come across a random floppy with mystery contents.

4 day weekend!
in a related vein: work gave me an allowance to buy myself a laptop. got a dell, and through a promotion i ended up with some cash-back/store credit.  it wasn't much, so i got a BT mouse and a USB CD/DVD writer.  i realized that currently, the only way that i can play and read CDs and DVDs is the DVD player connected to the basement TV.  i do have a desktop that i built almost 20 years ago (runs WinXP!) that i could fire up if needed, but would be easier to plug in a USB device should the need arise.  time to transfer everything off of DVDs and on to backup drives…
I have a USB DVD/RW drive. Cost me maybe $30. Only need it like once a year but it is worth it whenever I do.

I play all my CDs with a USB drive through my MacBook and Steinberg UR22 interface that doubles as a DAC. Works and sounds great.
