The Beer Thread

I was thinking last night that beer was like child birth.  In that it is sort of like a miracle.
Tell that to my wife and watch her kick you in the nuts.

Yeah, but fortunately with beer there are 1000's not owned by them.
Two companies producing 95% of the beer consumed in America, and thousands of companies producing 5% of the beer consumed in America.

Sort of like the unequal distribution of wealth in America.

it's a traveling circus.  they do it all over, here's reviews from the LA one: http://www.yelp.com/biz/la-beer-festival-culver-city
If the beers below impress you, then by all mean go.

But if you:

a. detest crowds of drunk mainstream twentysomethings or
b. have better beer in your basement

then don't go.

Here are some of the beers that the breweries are bringing…
Smuttynose: Old Brown Dog, Finest Kind IPA
Victory: Headwaters Pale Ale, SwingSessions Saison
Devils Backbone: Vienna, Eight Point, Congo, Schwartz Bier
Troegs: Perpetual IPA, Troegenator Doublebock, Dreamweaver, Wheat, Hopback Amber
Widmer: Pitch Black, O'Reilly Rotator, Hef, Columbia Commons
Redhook: Pilsner, Audible, Longhammer
Kona: Koko Brown, Longboard, Firerock
Omission: Lager, Pale Ale
Goose Island: Summertime, Honkers
Shock Top: Lemon Shandy, Apple Crisp
Bold Rock Cider: VA Apple, VA Draft
Boulder Beer: Hazed and Infused, Mojo, Sweaty Betty

"had" - sold out when i dropped by on my way home from work.  what a disappointment.

instead i picked up:
- FW Double Jack (solid IIPA, first time trying it)
- Troegs Nugget Nectar (very tasty, as always, my first of the year)
- FW Wookie Jack (i told y'all i'd be getting more)
- Avery Czar
- Van Honsebrouck Brigand (on sale for $6.99 - paging smakawhat)
- another 09.09.09 12.12.12 for the cellar (corrected, i had the 09.09.09 on my mind because i bottled my clone of that beer last night)
had nugget nectar and hopslam on draft at black squirrel last night.

nugget nectar was the better of the two, imo.
Had the St. Joseph's Tripel at DC Brau today.

Very nice tripel, definite improvement over the Ghouls Night Out quad they just did. Brought home a growler.
so i'm drinking a beer from the mad fox brewery near here in falls chuch, va… diabolik.. tapped today.. i took my growler to take advantage of the half price deal

i just can't drink this beer. .. what am i doing wrong or what is the deal… i feel like my upper chest has this big bubble pushing up on it or something if that makes any sense..

Looks like someone sold you some mediocre beer. Other than their excellent orange whip IPA, i've found all their beers to be mediocre.

not talking about the taste dude…talking about having your esophagus almost swell shut..

i've had this happen before with some beers…

for the record i really like the mad fox place…great burgers… and some of their beers are up my alley (defender american pale ale for example)
