The Beer Thread

oh you should see . . . what else i could bring.

;D  :D  ;)  :)  :o
I have a feeling I'd be expected to serve up something better than the Sierra Celebration my wife breaks out when the non-beer snob neighbors stop by.  ;)

So what's the best beer you drank in 2011? You can only pick one. I'll go first:

Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Vanilla Stout.

Was fortunate enough to come across this at a beer store while visiting my parents in Upstate NY. Then I made the stupid mistake of passing on a bottle of BCS Rare for $40. Couldn't justify spending that much on one bomber at the time (though I would have bought it now). Nonetheless, the BCS Vanilla was spectacularly good.
easy one, my friend.

i'll even space it out for added effect.

founders harvest ale.  good lord.  enough said.
first . . . my choice for christmas beer of the year (sorry mister ford)

now let me introduce to you my final beer purchases in december, after such an excellent year for drinking beer:

lagunitas sucks  holiday ale (thank you for the mention of this, got 2 six packs and loved it)
bell's  best brown
ovila  saison
rj ruckers  black perle
troegs  mad elf ale
new holland  cabin fever brown ale
duvel
elysian/stone  la citrueille celeste
delirium  noel
moosehead lager (said what the hell, and it was good)
founders  dry hopped pale ale
red hook  (esb / copper hook / long hammer ipa)
dogfish head  pearl jam  twenty  faithful ale
abita  twenty fifth anniversary  vanilla doubledog
abita  restoration ale
anchor brewing   merry christmas and happy new year 2011
williamsburg aleworks   drake tail
hibernator   long trail
erdinger   hefe-weizen  dark
The Corsendonk ale is my traditional holiday beer.  Unfortunately I haven't bought any this year.

Did buy some Lagunitas Sucks last night.
Anyone else battling a stage three hangover at work right now?

Argh!
Tried Dogfish Head 120 minute IPA yesterday . . .whoa . . .amazing beer, but truly must be consumed with caution.  One bottle drunk over about 30 minutes at lunch seemed like 3hrs and 6 beers
I learned that both Duvel and Goose Island Mathilda go great with a seafood feast.

I also learned that Williamsburg Alewerks Bourbon Barrel Porter, though quite yummy, doesn't pair with chili.

Picked up some Lagunitas Sucks at Quench last night - verrrrrry nice!  (BTW they only got 1 case, so get it if you're gonna!)
found a beer shoppee having a wonderful twenty percent off sale, so i got some final buys before the end of the year . . . yeah, pictures

I know a location that has more. I still have nine bottles left (plus a million other bottles). Fighting the urge to grab another six pack by telling myself that Hopslam will be here in a few weeks (though Lagunitas Sucks is half the price).

I really like Palm. It is a very drinkable, not super alcohol beer, that feels like there is more to it. It can be a little pricey in some places, especially considering it is not a prime European beer, but more and more places have it on draft, which is nice. Sometimes nice and easy is good, especially if you plan to drink three or more…
Picked up a case of the Suck at the Perfect Pour last week. They had multiple cases…

On a separate note, that store made me blow a load in my pants. Definitely over priced though…

Beer Disneyland!  Love that place.  Don't mind paying an extra buck for the stuff I can't find anywhere else!

$1 or $2 are fine, but items like the Pearl Jam Dogfish head were nearly double the price.
The highlight of my beer filled weekend was trying Firestone Walker's Parabola for the first time on draft at Fairfax Whole Foods. I think the keg lasted maybe three hours, so glad i got some!

It's a bourbon barrel aged imperial stout. My wife liked it better than Founders KBS. I won't go that far, but it was quite good.
