New Belgium just came to the DC area. They've been a mainstay (though not the best!) in other craft beer markets for years. The "marketing" push you're sensing is actually just the buzz from people who are excited to finally have easy access.
That said, I agree - Fat Tire is a sour Amber Ale that I do not enjoy. The other night I had a Super Cru, a kick in the ass brewed with Asian Pear juice. Not necessarily an A++, but worthy of a Tuesday night buzz. I understand their Grand Cru is worthy, but it's also quite hard to find….

Hey Jaguar, perhaps this is the beer for you!
Got a growler of this for the weekend. Have had it before. Very sweet stout. Some would say cloyingly sweet, though I wouldn't. Tastes like a liquid Tootsie Roll.
Southern Tier Choklat is similiar, minus the coffee. Though the Mokah to be much heavier on the chocolate than on the coffee itself.
Sorry about the picture size. I never know how to downsize them.

Oh, these sound delicious! Definitely checking around town for something of theirs.
Check out their
selections page from their website. Looks like they offer a whole lot that I might like. :o ;D That's saying a lot for a very minor beer drinker.
Walky, you've got to try to find some of that Old Man Winter brew. Get some soon and try it out the night of your first snow fall. Just don't let it sit around until spring. Then come back and let us know how it is.
Btw, you guys turned me off to that Flat Tire stuff. Sounds like I'd keel over dead off the bar stool before I even finished the bottle or pint. Still would like a sip just to know for myself.

have we talked about Sixpoint beers yet? That Bengali Tiger IPA is nasty - kind of oily or something - dislike!

Haven't had the Sixpoint IPA, but did have the burger beer and really liked it. Very drinkable.
All the Southern Tier beers I've had are just way too intense. I do not need that much flavoring in beer. Like a chocolate raspberry flavored coffee….ick.

I saw it at Beltway Liquors last week. Which means it's likely also at Corridor.

Do you say the same thing about food in terms of not liking much flavoring?
If I'm pairing a beer with a meal, I can appreciate not wanting to much intensity in a beer. You don't want to overwhelm the food.
But with the Mokah and the Choklat (and Pumking), they're dessert beers to be sipped on their own, maybe with a piece of dark chocolate. So to me, the more flavor the better! That said, some of flavors that they offer just don't sound appealing in and of themselves (like the one you mentioned).
The Southern Tier Harvest Ale is on the other end of the spectrum. Very bland and boring.

I think the Pumking is just way too much. And the creme brulee stout. I understand their appeal, but they're just too much. I don't need to be hit in the face by my pumpkin beer. Post Road is my favorite.

Not sure how close you are to Columbia, but it's certainly at the Perfect Pour.

Chevy Chase Wine has it too, and a cool search function for their inventory

that is funny. I love to hear people's thoughts on their favorite pumpkin beer! I do find that those who love pumpking don't really care for post road.

I disagree. I think I'm more fun:
"Untappd is a new way to socially track, rate, & share with your friends what beers you're enjoying, as well as where you're enjoying them. You can see what beers are trending nearby and where you can find them. Untappd will also share recommendations based on your drinking preferences. Curious about a specific beer? See what other users are saying about it and add it to your wish list to make sure you remember to find it! As you explore more brews and locations, you will uncover a variety of badges."

i dunno, 20-year-old BBS technology seems like a better way to track our beer drinking.
