Those must be the four longest blocks in DC because it sure seems a lot longer than 4 blocks when I walk past the Black Cat to Churchkey and then back to Black Cat for a show. :)

I had a bottle of Ommegang Abbey Ale recently and thought it was very good:


Nice deep color and lots of malts.

Just as a comparison, I'm a big fan of St. Bernardus Prior 8, Abt 12, et al., which are some of my favorites of this style.

Founders is coming to Maryland!  W00t!

The brewery recently installed an additional 85 Barrel brewing system, which increased its capacity to 200,000 barrels per year and expects to produce 75,000 barrels in 2012. Locally, these beers can be found in Virginia and Washington D.C., with expansion into Maryland expected early this year.

new favourite brewery . . . north coast brewery.  too much founders and it loses its edge.  and man i still kick my self for missing out on st bernardus christmas.

Did anybody else get their $4 10 oz pour of hopslam at Birreria Paradiso in Georgetown tonight?

I'm guessing they'll have more tomorrow at their half price happy hour Tues. based on how empty they were tonight, and the fact that the people around me were drinking Cokes and Eggenberg Pils from a bottle at twice the price.

If a woman as stunning as Charlize has to carry boxes of beer without any assistance from a man, than that goes to show you that it really is slim pickens out there! Why are these new breed of men so lazy?!

well that's easy - she wasn't wearing makeup, therefore she wasn't pretty, consequently she deserved to be carrying her own beer.

While it's interesting, most craft breweries aren't in it for the highest sales volume. So there's really not much to gather from the list as a consumer; other than confirming these are the beers you might have to dig through to get to rarer more obscure stuff. (Which may or may not be better than some of the beers of the listed breweries.)

beeradvocate.com is down.  i love how from the "503 Service Unavailable" error page there is a link back to beeradvocate.com… which leads to a 503 error.

i'm currently enjoying a Weedwacker (http://www.saintarnold.com/beers/weedwacker.html) - a kolsch made with hefeweizen yeast.  big thumbs up.

my own brewing efforts have been coming along nicely.  the first pic below is of my first two batches - on the left is a citrusy witbier, on the right (with the blowoff tube) is a belgian honey ale.  the witbier was bottled on sunday (second pic).

I just got supplies to start brewing beer!  Helped a friend brew an imperial stout on Saturday.  Can't wait!
