Had a pour of the Berliner Weisse by Bear Republic called Tartare at P Street Whole Foods. Definitely best Berliner I've had. Better than Westbrook Gose. Maybe the best under-5% beer I've had of any style.

Has anybody seen in in bottles?

Very funny you mention this beer as I never heard of it and had a glass of it last night at City Tap House. I found it WAAAAAAAAAY too tart and it caused immediate acid reflux (personal problem).

I enjoyed the glass of Birrificio del Ducato Chrysopolis much more.

Wow, $12 for a snifter of the Tartare at City Taphouse. It was $5 at P Street, and they just about filled  a 16 oz plastic cup for me. (also $15 for a 64 oz growler)

Thanks for the cost comparison.
that's really cool.  glad to see this taking shape!
ahh good ole Loudoun county, where one can spend, and spend some more.

Good for Tony - he's worked hard and earned it.

tony definitely deserves all the riches that come his way.  and i doubt that he would agree to any deal that tool away his control, or at least too much of it.

my WTF statement is about him selling to a big corp at all.  in the craft beer world, tony has been one of the most vocal opponents of Big Beer.  his twitter rants are legendary.  he's come up with many colorful ways of saying "i'd rather <insert colorful activity here> than sell out to Big Beer".  i wouldn't say WTF if Stone or Sierra Nevada sold to a an international beer company… but Lagunitas?  wtf?

there are so many hilarious stories about tony.  like back in the day, when Lagunitas was a lot smaller than it is today, they were total pot-smoking hippies.  the california ABC wanted to bust them for trafficking but couldn't: every time an undercover officer tried to buy pot from an employee, they insisted on giving it away to the cop… they wouldn't let him buy it.  eventually they got them on a RICO-style bust: people were smoking on the property at a public event and shut them down for a year.  Cue up Undercover Shut-Down Ale… the story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfW3MWqkpW4

tony also engaged in some really uh, creative accounting practices to stay ahead of the IRS.  some really funny stories there ;D
resistance is apparently futile in the craft beer industry.
but, does it fart, in our general direction?
I tried one of these last night. The Sam Adams version of hard root beer, not the Pabst/STB version. First time I had to drain pour a bottle of "beer" in a long time. Good thing I had a bottle of the Truth cold to take its place, and good thing I only bought one of these.

really?  I sort of like the other one, not your father,s rootbeer.  my partner hates beer, and loves the stuff.  I will try the sam adams one, and give my opinion.  I think, that you are too much a snob, to give a honest review, though.

I, bet, he like its,, because, it doesn't, taste, like………… beer.
I actually just went across the street to Total Wine and More to get some Bell's for guests coming over tomorrow to watch football, and found a few four packs of Gwar's Oderus Ale which immediately sent me into a cold panic.

It tasted like root beer (which I'm ok with) with some kind of weirdly awful medicinal aftertaste on top of that.

The Sam Adams one has been described as more "spice" while the Pabst one has been described as "much sweeter".  A lot of "spice" beers tend to rub me the wrong way…

Interestingly, Whole Foods refuses to sell the Not Your Fathers because it has artificial ingredients, but they do sell the Coney Island.

If I were a true snob, I wouldn't have followed it up with a Flying Dog beer.  ;D

I don't normally seek out Bell's beer (though give me a Two Hearted and I'm a happy man)…but I'm hoping to have one of these tonight on draft.

Hmm, I've never heard about that one. My local pub has a great relationship with the Virginia Bell's rep and gets most of the unusual stuff but not that yet. They've currently got Traverse City Barrel Aged Porter – which was really unusual (11.7abv) – and Two Hearted on tap and Neptune and Oracle in bottles. If you like Two-Hearted, if you can ever find Oracle, give it a try. DIPA but quite as bitter as Hopslam.
