Headed to the Tournament this week.  Anyone know what the beer options are like these days?  THANKS!

If you mean that you're going to the Phone Booth for the games, you're out of out luck. No alcohol is served at NCAA Tourney events. :dagger

that's odd, i get good and sauced at most georgetown games at verizon

It's an old NCAA rule that bans alcohol at any site for championship events. They also have to hide any signs/ads that advertise alcohol.

No beer + Aramark concessions = horror.
Yeah, I mean the tournament here in DC.  That's bad news indeed.  Thanks for the heads up!

the only good food in the arena is the BBQ place on the first level, great sweet potato fries
the vc food is awful. we usually go to matchbox or one of the jose andres places first
Apparently they have Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout on draft at Rustico at VA.

There are two Rustico's in VA, Arl. and North Old Town.
I didn't notice it at Alex. the other day. But I really didn't get past Nugget Nectar and Thornbridge on cask.

Ha…I only realized that over the weekend.  I used to frequent the Old Town location; came as quite a surprise when I saw a second location.

$20 is a decent price for KBS - its 22.99 at Rodmans and even higher at other places

I saw at ChurchKey last night and asked about KBS and the bartender said:

"You know what?  Our beer director likes to hold on to new things for a while, before rolling them out. If I had to guess?  It'll probably be a month or so before we tap that.""

How's that for a whopper of a lie? Probably a former Bush administration employee.

i'm not going tonight, but my wife did pick up a four pack earlier today. $20. Ouch.
They have nugget nectar and abita strawberry harvest at Corridor in Laurel, if anyone is looking for those.
I can't find KBS anywhere. Rodman's and Chevy Chase were sold out. Found out they were serving bottles at The Black Squirrel only to find out they ran out before I got there.

Blergh.
Try getting on a list somewhere in advance next year.

I got on the list at a couple of places in advance, and they kindly called me when they got some in. I actually had to turn them both down since my wife had already grabbed two 4 packs, and how much fo the stuff do you really need…

Whole Foods tests bars selling craft beer and local wine in its stores

still not sure why this is news, tho, since there are already stores that do this.  i believe there's one in fairfax, no?
so i went to my local "beershop" . . . which is a "country store" that (some random cuss word) rules.  there i found their last 12 six packs of this beer i kept hearing about, nugget nectar.  sure, why not, i'll try it.  took two.  first one i drank from the bottle.  thought it was horrible.  waste of money.  second one the next day, poured it into a proper beer drinking glass and it was nice.  after four more, they were delightful.

but what i really want to know, is that they had some founders selections, which i know nothing about besides i worship (by accidental trying) "backwoods bastard."  which others from founders should i try that will sway me over?
Founders is my favorite all around brewery. There's really nothing they are weak on, imo.

They're especially known for their seasonal stouts: Breakfast Stout, KBS, Founders Imperial Stout, and Canadian Breakfast Stout. Good luck at finnding any of those right now though. Their porter is easy to find, and it's my favorite porter.

Centenial (IPA), Red Rye PA, and Dirty Bastard (a milder version of Backwoods Bastard, sort of) are all excellent too and available year round.

You can also catch the excellent seasonal Double Trouble (DIPA) now.

Glad to see the The Beer Thread is still going strong.

Has anyone tried Southern Tier's Creme Brulee Stout? I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. This was draft; can't vouch for the bottles.

I haven't had it, but my wife has, and she said it's the bomb.

Yeah, the Fairfax store has numerous taps throughout the store and an upstairs wine bar. They also sell growlers.

The Fairfax Wegman's is joining the fray by adding a bar in their 'wine cellar'. Unfortunately they were installing Dogfish Head taps today. Kinda silly with the amount of Tröegs they're stocking and the fact there's a Dogfish brewpub a few miles away.

Firestone Walker is having a 'DC Launch' next week with stuff at Churchkey and Black Squirrel. Seems a little late since the Paradiso spots have had kegs for a few months. Hopefully Double Jack casks are involved.
