The Beer Thread

In all honesty, I haven't been to Boston in nearly 20 years. And the last time I was there, I was more interested in the girl I was visiting than I was drinking beer.

But my beer loving buddy just returned from trip there with some recommendations in tow, and I AM actually going for work next year, so have been doing some advance reading on it.

There's always a couple of head scratchers on those kinds of lists.

Boston is another one, IMO. Oh wait, alot of people drink Sam Adams and Harpoon, so they must be grat beers and hence Boston must be a great beer destination.

stevewizzle wrote:
that list is stupid. the inclusion of Missoula is weird. i've been there, and been to both places (big sky and kettle house), and there's nothing to write home about.

yeah, also weird. harpoon has a nice little beer bar, and sam adams is somewhat historic as far microbrews go, but not much else to see otherwise.  although the whole state of Massachusetts is doing really wonderful things with beer.

i should give a shout out to Penguin Cafe in Bringham Circle though.  that bar may have bankrupted me when i turned 21, but it was what got me into craft beer. and bukowski's is kind of incredible.
Before I was into beer, I drove by the sign which said "The Alchemist Cannery" having no idea what it was as I made my way to Ben and Jerry's.

Now I wouldn't even bother with Ben and Jerry's if I didn't have a kid.

Funny Alchemist is right next door to Ben and Jerrys.  All the pudgy beer geeks probably were going to Ben and Jerry's for a tour and found out about the brewery after stuffing themselves with ice cream.
Cambridge Brewing Company is incredible. criminal omission - they have a solera beer that is available from time to time, and is perhaps the best sour beer i've ever had.

also worth noting: http://www.nightshiftbrewing.com/

check out there sour futures.

but iirc, JF, you're not the biggest sour beer fan.
I don't drink sours on a regular basis, but if someone makes top notch ones, I'm not averse to trying them in the name of beer tourism!

I'll have remember to ask you about all this again this time next year, since the trip isn't until 8/2014.

And I was being sarcastic about Sam Adams and Harpoon. Obviously a number of good (likely better) things going on than just them, particularly outside of Boston proper. A top 10 beer destination though? Doubt it. I'll see.

Is atomicfront the world's biggest troll, douche, or ignorant?

I can't seem to figure it out.
atomicfront is so obviously a past forumer . . . who was either banned or asked to leave, and now hates what this places stands for.  i have always thought this, and i will never change.

Actually James Ford is the one that has been trolling and ignorant.

You are ignorant as well.  I had this account for a long time.  Check when I joined.
atomicfront makes some incredibly stupid posts, everyone lavishes him with attention, wash, rinse, repeat

Once again it was James Ford that made the incredibly stupid posts.  He might want the attention, I am not sure or he might just be a bitter old man.

I am sure they would spend the entire time telling me how stupid a beer I selected to drink.

I am trolling how?  Please tell me again fat skippy?  I mentioned how I was going to Munich and James Ford told me I was stupid for doing so as the beer is better in Vermont.  I guess I shouldn't have shared my Munich trip to the forum.  Sorry if that is trolling.
More like you're making shit up.

I simply said/meant I would fly to Burlington because (three particular breweries in) Vermont make better beer than any brewery in Germany.

That's not trolling, that's simply stating my opinion.

Having been to BOTH Munich and Vermont last year, I think I'm entitled to have one.

Munich's beer was enjoyable, but I'd never go back simply for the beer. Vermont, I would.

No you mentioned Germany as you knew I was going there and I asked you if you knew of any good brewery tours.  You certainly haven't been to every brewery in Germany.  So it isn't a valid opinion.  If you weren't trolling me you would have just mentioned their were great breweries in Vermont.
if this forum had a poll feature we could settle this once and for all.

now please take this to the Commentary on The Beer Thread Thread.

ps atomic wins troll of the century in a landslide.  rhett trolls with humor and style
Sorry to put this thread back on the tracks, but I'm very much looking forward to trading OTWOA for Heady Topper with my buddy in upstate NY in a few weeks. My only regret is that I wish I bought more OTWOA. Stupid daycare.

I've said it once and I'll say it again… it's pretty exciting to have Wings coming out of a DC brewery. It's pretty damn delicious.
