And still unimpressed w OHDC but also unimpressed w vast majority of IPAs these days - a buddy in CA keeps sending me Monkish and Fieldwork and most of them are crap

I realize it can be awkward when brewery folks are on a thread and honestly in the grand scheme of things my opinion doesn't matter……

……but I've not been impressed so far having had about 6-8 of their beers so far. The loaded baked potato was undrinkable and an instant drain pour and several others have been way too oniony on the nose for my liking. Regardless of the name and hype the reality is they have to dial it in like anyone else and I look forward to seeing what they do over the next 12 months and hopefully hanging out more at the brewery

Hey Brennser! Hope you're well.

My Other Half fanboy status has sort of died since tasting my first Tree House in August. I'm not sure what I going to do once the Tree House runs out. Even at four months old what i have left tastes better than fresh Other Half.

I can't argue against Hill Farmstead. Aside from maybe having it on draft a few years ago io a visit to NYC, I haven't had any for a good 10  years. :( Was Churchkey getting any of their hoppy stuff before the pandemic, or just the (great) saisons?

I'm good - and hope you are yours are too.

TH is great but even some TH beers I've had this year have not rocked my world. Some have been excellent though. From March until about June I thought the OH drops at DTC were mostly killer but either my palate became jaded or something else happened.

I've been fortunate to access a lot of different canned HF IPAs this year and they are simply heaven in a glass. Shaun really is head and shoulders above everyone else in terms of brewing - its just a pity its 10 hours away w the last 30 mins on dirt roads. Kinda surprised VT has not been a destination for one of the Freely families beer / hiking trips.

Maybe not anyone else on this board, but i think you vastly underestimate the beer geekiness of some people in the DMV.

I'm just aware of said fact because though they are owned by the same people, DTC gets a much more interesting and wider array of beer than Dominion. Other than those two stores, I don't follow the DMV beer distribution details.

I don't think the Brooklyn taproom is open. I wonder if this one will really open in October. I'd be fine with just grabbing cans at Downtown Crown indefinitely.

My ex ex ex ex girlfriend from the early 2000's mom used to be the GM at Deschutes. She used to ship mirror pond pale ale here to us and I thought it was the best thing ever.

Also, may I be the first to recommend the four packs of BA Ten Fidy… maybe the best shelfie BA stout around and even at a nice $pace price point.

last time i had HF was on your back porch, i believe… despite having been to VT many times after that, never made it up to greensboro… my loss.

have you tried sapwood recently?

our ole friend brennser is who I split the membership with… I think his critique of Sapwood would probably mirror mine, or maybe even be a bit more harsh in terms of their bottle program.

Consider a bottle of BCBS which is 16.9oz and costs roughly $12.99 to $15.99 a bottle depending on where you buy it. This is $20 for 48oz and is good as or better than said BCBS. I didn't say it was cheap, but in terms of price per ounce/style, it fits the $pace mold.

My brother moved from Seattle to Ithaca a few years ago. When he comes here to visit me, he passes up all of my local and regional beer recommendations and instead grabs a sixer of Mirror Pond to take home.

$20 for (4 x 12oz) = 0.41667/oz

vs. BCBS:
$13 for 16oz = $0.8125/oz

although it doesn't beat KBS, which is currently $18 at Total Wine (also where i got that BCBS price).

Would you you believe I have a couple of BA Ten Fidy cans from last year sitting in the cellar? Great beer at a good price.

Contrast that with Lagunitas Willetized, which is also out now. Good beer at a great price. BBA Biggie Smores, also out now, fits that description as well. I picked up a four pack of each of those.

Don't forget, regular KBS is going for about $17 a four pack now, too,

I did buy one bottle of regular BCBS, just because.

The Sapwood club membership has to be one of my most disappointing decisions in craft beer. We naively thought we were gonna end up w some DeGarde like product in Columbia based on the type and pedigree of the owner. We've had a bunch of their sours and they have all been very meh with really weird adjuncts - stag horn sumac?!

So yeah that membership is getting cancelled.

I have enjoyed some of their hazy IPAs from time to time
