The Beer Thread

Ouch! Too rich for my budget.
You wouldn't pay $6 or $7 for 12 oz for one of the best beers in the world, with an ABV of 11.2.

Yet you'd probably wouldn't think twice about paying $15 for 25.4 ounces of a totally mediocre bottle of wine. Or double that at a restaurant.

Not until I start making DC money. Sometimes it's not a matter of the cost vs. quality but the price vs. my broke ass in a town that pays everybody nothing.

My beer connect says only two cases were given to Rodmans and one case given to MacGruders, who knows though?

Also, two cases of Heady Topper are still being served at Smoke and Barrel. $10 a can.

they got 3 cases and 2 cases respectively

Long way for me to go drink a beer.  Seriously thinking about it tho.
Never had KBS!  You can't freakin' buy it in MD!  ugh.

Yeah, there's some strange distribution with Michigan coming to MD. MD basically blows for purchasing beer IMO.
but they can legalize gay marriage and pot!

Can you buy it in Delaware? That's just a hop, skip and a jump away from me. Actually, next month, only a hop and a skip.

I just wish that it was easier to purchase things in grocery stores and via online sales. We use to have a few grocery stores that sold beer and wine but they've all since closed and the ones still open don't bother. Oddly, we have a couple combination beer/wine/gas stations. Weird hypocrisy when you think about it.

We've got some weirdness down here with the liquor control boards who price fix everything. Nice that you don't have to shop around to find the lowest price except that they fix all the prices to sky high levels. Doesn't take much to realize that other than in a bar or restaurant, I don't buy much over the counter in Tax Hell, Maryland. They are now talking about allowing the Casino to operate as a warehouse but I don't understand any of that other than allowing them to serve alcohol all night, or something like that. I don't like gambling so it won't affect me unless they allow them to sell over the counter and they bring the prices way down.

Rhett, that $15 bottle of wine you were talking about is usually about $29 down here and it's rot gut that I'd rather not even touch. You can get better low end wine in Delaware for less than $15; however, the craft beers run about the same minus the over the counter taxes. Just to put them all in a little bit more perspective.

even if it's distributed there, you'll have a tough time getting any.  KBS is a very limited, once-a-year release.  stores here are only selling one bottle per person, and aren't advertizing it… you need to be in the know.

Well at 930 club even bad beer is more than that.

If you want to drink the best beer in the world make it yourself.  Store bought stuff no matter what the cost is usually inferior.  That is probably true of most things.

I bet your lager tastes worse than Yuengling.

I can't drink Yuengling as it is so nasty.  Think what you want.  But I will enjoy my tasty lager while you enjoy pasteurized beer filled with stuff like corn syrup solids.  If you want something that is tastey to eat or drink start with the raw ingredients.
C'mon. The guy's built like a linebacker, has a hot young wife, and has better music taste that you and I combined. I'm betting his lager's pretty damn good too.

My wife isn't young, she is 35.  I am just very old, like you.

Why would you think store bought beer would be better than stuff you make yourself.  My wife makes our butter and ice cream and both taste better than store bought stuff.  I am going to start making my own cheese soon as well.
I do not have the space nor the desire to make my own beer, or even wine for that matter. Besides, I don't drink that much to justify doing so. Buying a little here and there is fine with me. Just the price you pay for having someone else do it for you. I just can't go all that high in price. Again, trade-offs.

Yuengling: I can drink it occassionaly but I don't really like the stuff.

Sweets, just tell me if they sell the damn stuff in Delaware. No need for elitist beer crap games.  ::)  I'd only buy one bottle anyway just to see if I even liked the stuff! Not being all that much of a beer person, I am picky about my beers and often it has more to do with whether or not I can stomach the stuff since many of them don't agree with me.

35 is soooo young. That's when a woman hits her peak looks-wise, imo. Assuming she has taken care of herself.

Sweetcell makes a darn good IPA, but i think he'd be the first to tell you it doesn't measure up to Heady Topper or OTWOA.

i'm not being an elitist, i'm trying to set your expectations, namely that chances are very low you're going to get any.  you're expressing a mild interest in trying the beer, while other beer nerds are stalking stores ready to buy the place out as soon as shipments arrive.  here in DC all the KBS sold out within hours.

hey, we're working in ;D

i can honestly say that the majority of the best beers i've tasted over the past year have been homebrews.  then again, i've tasted a lot of homebrews.

heady topper, KBS, pliny, etc - these beers with a cult following have over-the-top flavor.  great thing about brewing your own is with some practice you can dial in that much flavor too.  making an exact clone of a commercial craft beer is really tough but you can get damn close or better yet make your own version/creation.
