The Beer Thread

last night the DC Homebrewers club met at Other Half.  attendees got tours of the facility from the head brewer, drank fresh IPA that was headed for canning the next day, and their cellarmaster pulled samples of barrel-aged stout and barleywine.  all this for the price of free.  as i've suggested before, you should follow their page even if you're not a home brewer - anyone can join and attend.  not all of their monthly meetings are quite as cool as this past one, but they're always fun :)

somewhat related: Denizens is having a bottle share this saturday, with free tours and tastings.  sounds like they're trying to make it a monthy'ish thing.

Can confirm, was awesome
Didn’t even hear about it until 6:30 and was in OH by 7:30 with a growler of my Swarzbier
Spent a lot of time chatting with the Sapwood brewer
Did you know the first canned beer was sold in Richmond!
https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/first-canned-beer-goes-on-sale

Canned beer makes its debut on January 24, 1935. In partnership with the American Can Company, the Gottfried Krueger Brewing Company delivered 2,000 cans of Krueger’s Finest Beer and Krueger’s Cream Ale to faithful Krueger drinkers in Richmond, Virginia.
Thoroughly enjoyed a nugget nectar on tap over the weekend at DTC…that lovely amber hue!  Nice break from the NEIPAs.  Prolly too sweet for the Beer Board :)
i honestly can't remember the last time i had a NN… probably close to 10 years now?  i wonder how i'd perceive that sweetness nowadays…
Last week I bought a four pack (16 oz cans) of a Fiden's pale ale. $26. I haven't tried it yet.

I also bought a six pack (16 oz cans) of a Stone Hazy DIPA, on sale at Giant for $10. They can call it a hazy, and it may have been brewed in Richmond, but it still looks and tastes like a WCDIPA.

Wonder which one will win the Space Quality/Price ratio derby?
Drake’s has acquired Bear Republic.  Huge news out here.  Or maybe it isn’t.
The coffee cake people?
The equation people.
The rapper?

I didn't realize Bear Republic still exists.

I don't think they ship here anymore.
How is that going to go over with the heavy MAGA presence?

Seems like it will be mostly men in drag
We Asked 15 Brewers: What Is Your Favorite Hop?

usual suspects are there (citra, simcoe, etc.) but a few new ones too… including nectaron, a hop from new zealand that is the most expensive hop on the market - when it's even available on the market.  i've been trying to get some for at least 2 years now, but whenever it is made available to homebrewers it's A) twice as expensive as the next-most expensive hop, and B) it'll sell out faster than a springsteen show.  a local brewery called Black Raven has released a seasonal featuring nectaron and it's freaking delicious.  been mainlining the stuff for 2 weeks now.  move over citra, nectaron is the future.
Astrolab has a new brew called Nectaron. It is delightful.
I'm going to throw it out there that O don't like simcoe.
