The Beer Thread

I had some that were 3+ month old and they seemed to have dropped off a little bit (to me). Still very good though.

My 72 year old mom did the single coolest thing of her life a couple of weeks ago. My brother took her to the Alchemist, where she sampled Heady Topper and brought home a four pack for herself. She drank one and decided drinking a whole can was far too much for her. So she said she'd save the other three until August, when she sees me.

No, MOM, drink those Heady's now. They're best fresh!

She also said she preferred some of hte Magic Hat beers she sampled to Heady.  ::)

I drank two Toppers out of my last four pack over the weekend that are nearly 6 months old and there was little to no degradation in taste, still absolutely amazing.

Heavy Seas Alehouse coming to Arlington

The restaurant in Baltimore is pretty awesome.  Great food.
Parabola dropped at Total Wine today with a one bottle limit.

With three stores withing 10 miles of my house and two people, I suppose we could have nabbed more than the one bottle we did. But i'm happy with one.

it's no CBC, but there are various events going like like a free tasting at Cordial Fine Wines on Thursday (walking distance from Noma-Gallaudet), and a Stone is doing a tap take-over at the Iron Horse on Thursday, etc.  calendar: http://www.craftbeer.com/news-and-events/calendar?event_type=530

not a whole lot, but there are a few things on offer.  good weekend to be in frederick!
Several area Total Wines had a couple of varieties of Cantillon for about five minutes yesterday, seemingly without any advance notice in the beer community. Didn't snag any.

Though we did have their gueze when were in Bruges, and I didn't care for it.
So I ended up buying airline tickets to Munich last night.  Are there are any brewery tours worth taking in Munich?
No beer tours to be done, but I highly recommend the Hirschgarten Beer Graden in Munich. Also highly reocommend a visit to Kloster Andechs. Note: Involves a train ride to the suburbs/country and some non-strenuous hiking, but it's beautiful once you get there.

I also found the book called Beer Drinkers Guide to Munich to be a highly worthwhile investment.

I will check those out.  Thanks.  Do you mean there are no brewery tours or no brewery tours worth doing?
I think Kloster Andechs has one tour a week, but I read that it's in German. They make the best dopplebock on the world (imo), and their other stuff is very good as well. As most of the major breweries in Munich ship here and (imo) are of lesser (but often still good) quality, that's really the beer geeks Munich area biggest goto destination.

A google search gave me this info from 2010 (we didn't go on any of them so can't comment):

Mowed the lawn, rode my bike (but not to work), and now enjoying a nice lawnmower beer.

i bet you are fun . . . when you are good beer giddy.
not exactly what i'd call a traditional lawnmower beer, but rock on ;D

speaking of belgians: last night i had a Dupont "Cuvee Dry Hopping 2013".  absolutely fantastic.  adding the aroma of hops (in the case Triskel, a new european variety) to a traditional saison just works perfectly.  i'll be grabbing a bunch more of these.
It was also our 10th anniversary yesterday.  ;D

And speaking of lawnmower beers, my Iranian neighbors have three Latino men out doing their lawn as I type this. Should I go offer them my last Rochefort 10?  ;D
Port City's Borracho Smokin' Brown Ale was pretty damn tasty. There was only 2 kegs of it at The Pinch so it went rather quickly I think. It was certainly smoky! Crazy how so many area bands get their own beers.

That isnt' a lawnmower beer.
It might be hard to believe but Hanson have now been a band for more than two decades. In honor of their 21st birthday, the group has officially launched their own beer, ?Mmmhops.?
