Straight from the Unibroue website, these are the "aging potentials" of the four beers that were in that pack.

Trois Pistoles: 5-8 years
Maudite: 5-8 years
La Fin Du Monde: 3-5 years
Don De Dieu: 2-3 years


I still have three packs left…


Anybody here a member of the Beer Advocate or Ratebeer forums? To date I'm only a lurker. Still, very informative…

cool, thanks for looking that up.  and nice stash!

i wonder if the size of the bottle makes a difference.  the taster packs were all 12 oz bottles, but when i think of aging i think larger 750 ml bottles.

has anyone here tried brewing their own beer?

does anyone know of any particularly good (or at least well-regarded) online resources for home brewing?

i'm tempted to have a go at it.  i picked up a regional brewers' association newspaper last week, it had all sorts of info in there.  need to find myself another copy of it.  depending how well it goes, i could consider growing my own hops next year.

Anyone a fan of Firestone Walker Union Jack? Maybe my favorite non-imperial IPA, even better than Ballast Point Sculpin. Really hope they hang around the DC market.

james, did you try the DC Brau they had on tap last night?  it's a a pale ale with a surprising amount of hoppiness.  i quite liked it, surprisingly.

Too much of a crowd crush to try to get to the bar last night. Or maybe i was being picky about drinking beer out of a plastic cup.

They had it on draft at CK the last time i was there. But I just couldn't convince myself to pay the same price for it as i did for the Two Hearted I chose instead.

I brew.  How to brew is the best resource you can use to start.  Theres a home brew store in Falls Church (MLHBS) which is very helpful as well.  You could go in there and walk out with ingredients to start brewing right away.

awesome, thanks for the input.  i will definitely have to swing by MLHBS (might even go tonight).  there is also The Flying Barrel in frederick that i've heard good things about. 

what is you best tip for the newbie?  anything you wish someone told you before you ruined your first batch?

can't get into the fat tire beer…don't know what people see in it. to me it tastes like crap but its the rage now…

i'm with you.  i don't hate it, it's certainly better than the crap that most people drink, but it's nothing to get excited about.  i think its current popularity has to do with its newness and former rarity.  they only started selling it here this year.

In places where it has been around a while, Fat Tire is the type of beer that's typically sold in gas stations and 7-11's.

Fat Tire is on prominent display now at my local CVS in Springfield.

In the large-ish craft brewery category, Sierra Nevada and Deschutes kick New Begium's ass. Hope Deschutes eventually makes it here.

Fun fact… dated the manager of Deschute's daughter about 9 years ago and she used to ship me cases of Mirror Pond Pale Ale.  ;D

I'll take a Sierra or Dales over Fat Tire any day.. its not even a contest…
