The Beer Thread

hahahahaha

I copied that post from a certain beer retailer's facebook page.

"I" refers to the buyer for that retailer who is making the facebook post. Meaning that he will be serving samples of all seven. And not to fear, by "sample" I mean a taste…like an ounce of each, if you're lucky.

But I do have to ratchet up my tolerance…headed to the Pacific Northwest Friday.

I will be tasting all 7 Thursday and Friday evenings if anyone wants some free beer.

Gee, I still remember the days when a half a beer did you in!  :D

Yeah, I know they are just tasting glasses though, at one time, that would have about been your limit. (Don't know their proper name.)

Don't worry, I'm not making fun of you Rhett; I'm just marveling over the evolution of Rhett from the days of yore. Impressive.

Sounds like a nice event. Kind of wish I could be there. Have a taste for me. One of the less hoppy, sweeter brews. Cheers.

i think i'm starting to like india pale ales.  that is all.
Frisco Grille and Taphouse in Columbia, MD, had Dentergems White Beer on tap as of Sunday. Quite good. Lots of flavor, with a slightly sour aftertaste. Similar to Unibroue Blanche de Chambly. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Frisco Grille is awesome.  It's down the street from my house.  They're hosting what I think will be a fun night next week, just an FYI

Twelve days of heavy beer drinking and brewpub food (by my standards) and only one pound weight gain.

Brewpubs/breweries/tasting rooms visited:

Hair of the Dog, Portland A+
Cascade, Portland N/A (liked the tasting room alot, couldn't get into the sour beers)
Rogue, Portland, D (crappy service from a dumpy looking server, bad food, only the wimpy stuff on tap)
Deschutes, Bend brewery=A, brewpub=B+
10 Barrel, Bend beers=C, brewpub atmosphere=A-
Full Sail, Hood River, B- (nice river view, mediocre beer and food)

Notable eateries:

The Farm Cafe, Portland
Blossoming Lotus, Portland
Pizza Ascholls, Portland (except for the 1.5 hour wait)
Bambinos Pizza, Seattle ($2 pints of the Stone SR and Unibrous TP!!!)
Brouwers Cafe, Seattle
My brothers house, Seattle
Our friend's house, Seattle
did anyone get the groupon for a case of craft beer at Wagners in G'town for $22 last Thursday or Friday?

Have no idea how they can make this work financially but didn;t stop me from picking up two. When I got there Monday they had been cleaned out of Bells etc but I used one of em on a mixed case of Dale, Victory, Flying Dog and Port City

They must be taking a major bath on this though - over 1,000 groupons were sold
heading to the beach this week, will be firmly planted at the dogfish head brewpub in rehoboth.

NEW BELGIUM UPDATE!!! Well it is finally here. NB hits NoVa this week and I get my share on Thursday. The initial portfolio includes Fat Tire, Ranger, Trippel, Hoptoberfest, Kick, Clutch and Super Cru, all in 22oz.

I got most of these at Teeter - the Super Cru was undrinkable, disgusting, otherwise great stuff.

I thought the Hoptoberfest was decent. Agree on Super Cru - drain pour and wasn;t crazy about Clutch either (much as I wanted to LOVE it)
didnt really like dc brau at club
preferred choc city beer (copper)

At least one area place is going to be sampling New Belgium…

Perfect Pour had a sampling "event" a couple of weeks ago.  Fat Tire was the only beer I chose to walk out with.  The other stuff was ok, but nothing more than that.

Would like to find a place that has Fat Tire on tap.
you should go to north carolina.  they worship fat tire.  worship it.  a bartender at the beach told me that once they took it off tap for something new . . . and people actually almost rioted.
I do like it better out of the tap.  I thought it was ok out of the bottle but it wasn't anything I'd have to stock on a regular basis.

Hardly worth rioting over.

DC Brau just did a fantastic hefe weizen - draft only - got a growler at the brewery - small batch I think
Won't be on tap for a little while still.

I thought the tripple was pretty decent.  I have the Hoptober, but haven't tried it yet.  Most places should have the New Belgium stuff by now.
I sampled four of the New Belgian beers from the bottle (ipa, fat tire, tripel, octoberfest) and found them all pretty bland. Of course having just had a Founders Centennial and Dogfish Life and Limb on draft certainly didn't help New Belgium's chances.
james . . . founder's ipa sold me on ipa.  now i'm leisurely trying others, and i'm noticing, a lot suck.

also, just got some new beers.  can't wait to try and post.

A Georgia brewery has brewed a 9353 beer.

There's a pic in my FB of him with a bottle of it.

Apparently this tiny brewery in NW Atlanta has a whole line of one-off special/seasonal beers that pay tribute to various punk bands…Tesco Vee and the Meatmen's -Toolin' For Ale-nus Brown Ale anyone?

If you like Centennial, give Bell's Two Hearted a try. I've heard they use the same hops. I love them both.
