The Beer Thread

  :)
bought a six pack singles of the following beers.  they were good, in this order:

1.  avery brewing (the demons of ale)  Samael's oak aged ale

2.  Lagunitas  Aunt Sally  (name attracted me for personal reasons, and almost certain affected me in my opinion that it is awesome and I loved it.)

3.  Victory  Hop Ranch  (not incredible but decent for a bottle and for Victory.  not a keeper or prize memory)

4.  Flying Dog  (Single Hop Series)  Ella  Imperial IPA  (this is my go to brewery for easy to drink and cheaper than super snooty offerings.  I liked this and was a nice add to the arsenal.)

5.  Flying Dog  dead rise old bay summer ale  (not good.  never again.)

6.  Sierra Nevada  Hoptimum 2016  (love this beer.  always will.  the, end)

i quite like dead rise.  it goes really well with food.
We had a small growler of Ocelot Wicked Garden DIPA on Saturday. So amazingly good.

Then a crowler of Aslin Mind the Hops with Peach+Vanilla on Sunday. One of the best beers I've ever tasted in my life. Made in the county I live in.

Then a can of  two week old Cigar City Jai Alai on Monday. Mind you, this is a beer I've loved in the past but the two locals were so, so, so much better that there seemed to bee no point in drinking this beer.
I, also got stone enjoy by 07/04. Not, as good as 04/20, by a long shot.

Pretty turrible beer, IMO.
i was less than impressed by 07.04.16 as well.

my favorite of the series, by a long shot, was the unfiltered 02.14.16.  sooooooooo fruity.  they're bringing back an unfiltered version in august, can't wait.
peppermint victory at sea: not the train-wreck that it could be, but not great either.

This The Veil thing is getting massively hyped in RVA. They put their cans on sale on Tuesdays at 4pm and people are lining up at noon every week and the entire thing is selling out by 6. It just can't possibly be that good to justify this behavior.

I can vouch that is quite delicious, however, I do refuse to stand in lines for beer.

Quite deceiving as basically the entire top 20 other than a few is easily attainable all over the country. I'm sure that impacts the ratings.

Of that top 20, these are the beers I'd buy if I had easy access to them at all times.

1. Russian River Pliny the Elder
3. The Alchemist Heady Topper
6. Founders Breakfast Stout
7. Three Floyds Zombie Dust
9. Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout
T10. Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA
12. Founders KBS (Kentucky Breakfast Stout)
14. Lawson?s Finest Liquids Sip of Sunshine
18. Cigar City Jai Alai IPA

I had one on draft and it was good but I also am not queuing to buy beer. Or most anything. I'm not a full-on "I never queue" guy like Smackie but something needs to be sufficiently amazing for me to lineup. Beer does not constitute.

How about what a boring list, I've had 48 out of 51?

Agreed… Turrible. Now go look at that BA list for a solid top 20.

yes indeed that would be a typical response :D
Finally got my Rodenbach Alexander at Whole Foods on P street.  I got two and they had one left on the shelf last night.  I had actually stopped looking.
happy father's day to me!  some guys get ties, i get this…

had the blackberry farm classic saison with dinner, t'was really frikken excellent.
I had planned a Father's Day beer outing to Aslin following a morning hike of the Billy Goat Trail. But alas Aslin was closed again as they ran out of beer SAturday at 3. There were reports of 100 people being in line even before they opened. Likely many of them to get beer to trade to people around the country (rather than consume themselves), as Master of Karate is now tied for #43 on the Beer Advocate Top 250 (and likely to go higher as it gets more reviews). Instead, we split 32 ozs of an Ocelot saison from a growler and split a 16 oz Imperial Biscotte Break tallboy (never thought I'd see that beer in a tallboy).

Oh well. We did go to Manor Hill Brewing in Ellicott City on Saturday. Good beer, though not Aslin-level. The farm brewery atmosphere there was miles better than the suburban stripmall atmosphere of Aslin. The fact that you have to make a (free) two hour limit reservation for their limited to 50 people at a time tasting room made it a comfortably pleasant (albeit a little hot, no AC) experience.
