The Beer Thread

I'm kinda sad . . . I can't drink, for awhile. Doctor, says so.
so I have The Can Manufacturers Institute  as a client
and read this beer related tid bit on their site I thought would be fun to share with the class

Go RVA

The first can of beer was sold January 24, 1935 in Richmond, Virginia. It was brewed by Kreuger Beer and came in a steel can made by the American Can Company. This tall cold one?a flat or punch top can?required a can opener. By August of that year, Pabst had become the first major brewer to add canned beer to its regular product line. And shortly thereafter, in September 1935, two beer makers, Schlitzlager and Heilman Lager, introduced the cone top can made by the Continental Can Company which, because it was similar in shape to a bottle, could be run through existing glass bottling lines. Schlitz had experimented with a barrel-shaped can, but introduced their beer in a spout-topped can that year as well.

Always wondered why the Conetop cans existed (in that they seemed so much harder to produce) but using the existing bottling lines makes a lot of sense now

Interesting… I saw Founders Harvest ale over a month ago in PA and NY, so unless it's a new batch it's already at least a month old.
Tried Rar for the first time yesterday - found a 6 of Nanticoke Nectar.  I'm quite pleased by this development.

Are you sure it was 2016 Founders Harvest Ale? They just had their Harvest Party at the brewery three days ago.

I ask because I was actually still seeing 2015 Harvest Ale at at least one store in the Summer.

Also, their website says it's an October release.

I'm not getting it if you think it sucks…

in case you're being serious: "sucks" is the name of the beer.

I've never had this and am fairly excited about it.

What can anyone here tell me about Right Proper? Worth the trip?  Looks like most of the stuff is low octane.

Also looking for Stone Tangerine Enjoy by 10.31.16 if anyone has seen it.
last years, founders harvest ale, was not good, in my opinion.
Had you, had it, previously?

I've, had it… multple years… and it's decent at best. Used to be stellar but there's just too many good hoppy offerings these days to settle for mediocrity.

Re: Right Proper. It took me a solid four visits to find one beer there I really liked, but if you like those styles of beers, you'd probably dig it. I'd rather spend a few hours drinking at CK than there, personally. Space, feel free to slaughter this post.

edit: if you're looking for hoppy beers, definitely not the best place to go.
fully, agree with yada

Is it because he threw a random comma in the middle of his first sentence?

i've only been to the brookland tasting room, not the production facility, and i thought it was worth the trip each time.  octane might be low but flavors are high.  if your main concern is tying one on (AKA get crunk), they always have a few offerings north of 6% including guest taps which aren't listed on their website.  don't sleep on their lower ABV stuff.  some of those sours and saisons are damn tasty.

Also the Stone Brewery less than a mile from me but that's perhaps even less helpful than Sweets' suggestion.
I enjoyed Right Proper's Diamonds Fur Coat Berliner Weisse.  It would be refreshing in this unseasonably hot weather.

^^that's the beer that hooked me^^

Good stuff.
Good stuff folks, thanks. Normally, I'm all about the hops but I do need some mellower for the 6 hour tailgates. Last week I took some Ocelot and it caught up with me pretty quickly.

I can stop by the Bethesda spot, I guess, but I'd love to get the Stone Tangerine home.

I love love love Right Proper. The Brookland location actually IS the production facility, though they still brew beer at the Shaw Brewpub at well. The latter is my go to place before 9:30 shows.
