there were two more votes for SY at the club in the "4th of july plans" thread, in case you missed it. so that's 4 votes so far - only 1,196 more to go! their show in NYC on the 4th kicked all sorts of ass.

Public Enemy has been performing "It Takes a Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back" in its entirety over in Europe and are also doing it at the Pitchfork Festival, see if you can get 'em to do it here, thanks! :)

I vote Sonic Youth as well.
And still Aphex Twin.
And it would be nice to catch the Wood Brothers.

i asked this before, but seth or no one else answered. does the person who books shows (i guess seth) actually look at this and go, ok them, no not them, yes them, no too old, no too young, yeah well maybe next month, etc……?
or does seth book who he knows is a diverse selection of music that will attract people to the club, regardless of who asks for what.
sonic youth has played the club too many times. yawn.

and when, pray tell, was the last time SY played the 930? and i'll bet that the last 5 times they played, the club was 90% full if not more… so how can that be "too much"???
a show now will definitely sell out. they could probably sell out a 3-night stand.
they've been around since 1981, of course they've played the 930 twenty times. they have the chops, and the fan base, to pull it off. deal with it.

i dare anyone to say that one show (or a pair of shows) every two years is "too much" for a band of the caliber of sonic youth.
if you don't like them, don't go to the show - plenty of other people will be there, we won't miss you :p

Aren't SY working on a project with Merzbow?
Maybe he can open for them and they can debut their colabboration live and then Seth can buy a new PA for the club after the current one is destroyed. :)
Edit: it's just a release of a recording of a live performance from three years ago. But still, it'd be a nice way to promote it.

and what "caliber" exactly is Sonic Youth?
what an oh-so-poignant question. you, sir, are an iconoclast
are you completely unaware of how many other musicians list them as major influences, or have you just never heard of the band? to couch it in practical terms: they're a band that can sell out the 930 for two nights in a row.
