Dropping Like Flies

Thatcher
Thatcher is kind of Reagan; disagree almost universally with her politics but can't deny she was an effective leader
And to them we say…

somebody died . . . now fuck off.

Margaret Thatcher and misapplied death etiquette

There's something distinctively creepy - in a Roman sort of way - about this mandated ritual that our political leaders must be heralded and consecrated as saints upon death. This is accomplished by this baseless moral precept that it is gauche or worse to balance the gushing praise for them upon death with valid criticisms. There is absolutely nothing wrong with loathing Margaret Thatcher or any other person with political influence and power based upon perceived bad acts, and that doesn't change simply because they die. If anything, it becomes more compelling to commemorate those bad acts upon death as the only antidote against a society erecting a false and jingoistically self-serving history.

There was this much glee when Reagan died as well.

It's still "National" to me.

Same here. I refuse to call it anything but.
Ditto. I never call it by the "official" name.
National Airport

that's what it is
Do you say MCI Center or Verizon Center.  BWI used to be called Friendship Airport.  I guess no one minds that name change.

BWI is officially the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, you damn racist.

That is a lot to say.  And it sucks they have next to no international flighs and southwest runs the joint.  I have to drive up to PHL or IAD.  I don't even know what PHL stands for.
PHL = Philadelphia, but I know that you really do know that.

I use to always call BWI Friendship until I was a travel agent which then required me to say BWI, or it's full name before the change. I've never called it by it's full name since because it's just way too much of a mouthful. BWI it is unless I'm talking to someone who needs the details to where it is located.
Probably true. But there was no Twitter on which to express it. Should have said "never seen this much glee concentrated in one place for the death of someone." There was that Ween show at the Club the night before his funeral where Gene paraded around in a Reagan mask somebody tossed onstage to Dean playing Hail to the Chief after calling him "the man of the hour."

And yes. National forever.
One of the weekend weather guys on Channel 4 refuses to call it anything but National. Nothing but respect to that man.
Does anyone even fly out of National?

I use the Virgin America direct flight to and from SFO out of National at least 4 times a years.  It's probably the best flight between the DC Area and the Bay Area there is.
