a video was released shortly after his death in which he apologized for the harm done by apartheid.

an interview on BBC with a former SA dissident paints a much less rosy picture of the man than what the media is currently painting of him…dissident said that de klerk only abandoned apartheid at the very last second when it was obvious it was going to happen with or without him, gave him little credit for the reconciliation process, and said he negotiated his way out of jail and into a comfortable retirement wherein he kept all his (ill-gotten) assets.
