Well he only wrote one book after the year 2000…so once you read him, you were sort of done. I guess maybe what you mean is he didn't really have staying power in the literary world.
He wasn’t like a Rushdie, Barnes, McEwan churning out great books every 2-3 years. Once all his stuff got translated into English and the West caught up he was sort of done. At least that’s my impression. Most of his stuff is before the fall of the iron curtain. He has no ambition.

On a personal level I found his stuff kind of fluffy.
