He contracted the virus following a long stay in the hospital for heart problems.
Millie Small

Sad to hear about Millie Small. Her early journey was steered initially by Coxone Dodd's label, then Chris Blackwell's Island….. My Boy Lollipop put island Records on course to become an influential record label with an excellent musical reputation.

Interesting says Kraftwerk summer shows cancelled already even though on sale for Anthem

Double bummer
Numbers was a bit of a hit in Detroit thanks to the DJ calling himself the Electrifying Mojo, I even bought that Kraftwerk seven inch.  Anyways as the tweet says This is #Detroit on #Kraftwerk #RIPFlorian, watch dancers on the New Dance Show enthusiastically moving to Numbers

Electrifying Mojo was also key in helping to break Prince.
Another artist with a strong Detroit connection  :'(

Hillard "Sweet Pea" Atkinson, the fedora-wearing vocalist for Was (Not Was), has died at the age of 74.

The singer was known for hits including Walk The Dinosaur and Spy In The House Of Love, and also performed with Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt and Iggy Pop.

good stuff

Kraftwerk operated within pop, yet remained somehow apart and above. When, in 1975, Lester Bangs jocularly enquired what kind of groupies Kraftwerk got, Schneider sternly snapped: "None. There is no such thing." He and Hütter's idea of rock star excess was buying lots of bicycles and taking up long distance cycling (sometimes racing between cities on tours).
