Seattle's Crocodile Cafe closes
By JOHN MARSHALL
P-I REPORTER
Crocodile Cafe, R.I.P.
Saturday night, the Belltown club was packed once again for sets by Robin Pecknold, J. Tillman and David Bazan, with the usual "Croc" good times under way and the bar doing brisk business. Nothing suggested that those in the crowd were witnesses to the venerable music venue's last waltz.

Oscar Peterson, Jazz Pianist, Is Dead
By REUTERS
TORONTO (Reuters) - Oscar Peterson, who sat atop the world of jazz piano for decades with his driving two-handed swing, technical wizardry and rapid-fire solos, died Sunday of kidney failure, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp reported. He was 82.
One of jazz's most recorded musicians, both as leader and accompanist, Peterson came from working class beginnings in Montreal – where his father let him pursue music only if he promised to be "the best" – to become a major influence on generations of top-flight musicians.
Since blasting onto the world stage with a famous appearance at New York's Carnegie Hall in 1949, the beefy high school dropout amassed armfuls of honorary degrees and awards, including a 1997 Grammy for Lifetime Achievement and an International Jazz Hall of Fame Award.
Canada made him a Companion of the Order of Canada, the country's highest civilian honor, as well as the first living Canadian to be depicted on a stamp. (Reporting by Jeffrey Jones)

Who do you think will get posted on this thread first…
Britney Spears or Amy Winehouse?
Britney Spears or Amy Winehouse?
They both look pretty dour these days, but Winehouse really seems to have taken to the smack. Britney is the imminent trainwreck, but I think Winehouse is the keg of gunpowder with the fuse lit.
dunno. i think britney has a less serious habit (prescription amphetamines and laxitives aren't as bad as coke and heroin) and is surrounded by more people/care-takers who can intervene. on the other hand, winehouse has proven herself to be a survivor. i didn't think she'd last this long, maybe she's indestructable. i'll give a slight edge to amy going down first, if only because the only person there to help her is in even worse shape than she is.

Bobby Fischer
Back in high school, I was on the school newspaper. One time, this guy from Sports Illustrated - William Nack - came in to talk to our class (he had two smokin' hot daughters who went to my school). He told this story about trying to find and interview Bobby Fischer. It took him several months to track Fischer down and, when he finally did, and when he was standing just a few feet away from Fischer, Nack realized that Fischer had gone to a hell of a lot of lengths to not be found. So Nack just turned around and walked away; without getting the interview he had spent months working on. I always loved that story.
