Tony Gwynn

Damn shame.  Dipping is a nasty habit that needs to die.

@dschoenfield: Here's a sad note: Tony Gwynn struck out three times in a game just once, 4/14/86. The pitcher who got him all three times? Bob Welch.
major bummer about Gwynn….

I am a sad panda.
Gywnn was so young. Only 5 years older than me.  I didn't even know there was such thing as salivary gland cancer.

Adam Yauch died the same way.
He didn't seem like the chewing tobacco type.

First pack of baseball cards I ever bought at like 4 or 5 years old had a Tony Gwenn All Star card in it. I was convinced it was extremely valuable and he was solidly my favorite baseball player up until the year that Cecil Fielder broke 50 home runs. Sad to hear he died so young.

He, too, was struck out 3 times by Bob Welch in a game?!

Evidently heavy cell phone use leads to this type of cancer.
Steve Rosenzweig, guitarist of Baltimore death metal band Visceral Disgorge. This was taken from their fb page:

"It is with the deepest regret that I have to inform everyone in this manner. VISCERAL DISGORGE guitarist/key composer/original member Steve Rosenzweig was found dead this mourning. We are not at liberty to discuss any details regarding his untimely death. I will try to post information on his viewing/funeral for those of you that knew Steve. This news came to a shock to all of us in the band and to his friends in the Baltimore death metal community. The remaining members are getting together tonight to mourn his passing and to discuss if we should carry on as a band. You will be missed greatly brother."
Redskins? merchandise gravy train.

Well I didn't and there was someone on the last page I didn't know either.  And I am sure most people have never heard of him before either.
I would imagine most music geeks have heard of him. Though this board isn't necessarily a hangout for music geeks.

Who was the other one you couldn't identify? Tony Gwynn, Jimmy Scott, Chuck Noll, and Ruby Dee are all pretty well known, if you're into sports and entertainment.

I didn't know who Ruby Dee was but after I just looked her up I realized she starred in Raison in the Sun which I have seen.

Sometimes you should just look them up instead of presenting yourself as petty and inerudite.

We agreed to list a brief description of the person who died.  I did that for Casey Kasem although I thought everyone should know who he is.  If you can't give a description why even bother posting?  And I don't know who "Ineurdite" is either.  Petty did that song with Stevie Nicks.
