depending on your translation/version, hell is indeed mentioned: "The King James Bible, which is widely considered to be one of the most inaccurate translations, while also being a fixture in traditionalist Christian circles, contains the most mentions of “hell” at 54 occurrences. More accurate translations like the NASB and even the highly popular NIV show the word “hell” occurring between 13–14 times, ALL of which are found in the New Testament." (source, others available upon request)

BUT EVEN IF your preferred version of the bible doesn't contain the letters H-E-L-L in that order, it's because they use a synonym: the valley of fire, the pit, the eternal darkness, or one of two ancient greek terms that meant the same thing: Hades or Gehenna. exact same concept as what we understand hell to be.  saying that hell isn't mentioned in the bible is pure semantic hair-splitting.
I did not know that…

Is it mentioned in the Old Testament?

oh no, just read he was going home.

Was giddy to post about Kissinger, but now sad about Shane

What’s sad is we already had this discussion
If only GGW was here to find the post
I guess I refuse to accept it.

That is sad.

I need to do some penance.

@electionlit

Was at a festival in Cork, Bob Dylan was due to headline but pulled out as he was ill.
Each artist comes on and dedicates a song "this one's for Bob" etc etc
Shane McGowan headlining walks on and says "Fuck Bob Dylan!"

alfranken

Kissinger called SNL once late on a Friday night looking for tix for his son. The Stones were playing that week. I told him that if it hadn’t been for the Xmas bombing, he’d have the tickets

I get it that Jews can't get into heaven, but why not Shane? Or do you think they made him give up the bottle to get in?

I think he documented a life of Sin and encouraged other to as well

I present this as evidence
"You remember that foul evening when you heard the banshees howl
There was lazy drunken bastards singing Billy in the bowl
They took you up to midnight mass and left you in the lurch
So, you dropped a button in the plate and spewed up in the church"
The Sick Bed of Cuchulainn

but let's be clear, I love me some Sinners, so he was a fine man in my book
hell is a construct used by the church to guilt/sway people into obeidence
