And yes it’s been awhile since I’ve listened to World Party or the two records he did with the Waterboys

Weird, I just heard the Waterboys on the radio a couple hours ago. Though not Wallinger-era WAterboys.
Bummer…I went through a huge World Party phase around 91-93. Then I was really let down by the follow up to Goodbye Jumbo. Saw him at 930…I don’t believe live performance was his strength…..more like in the studio.  I think he had a stroke more than 20 years ago which affected him quite a bit.
"Goodbye Jumbo" an absolutely great record. Almost every song on that is amazing.

Apparently it’s been a while since anyone listened to World Party, judging from Spotify plays - The big hit Way Down Now has only 3M and Put the Message in the Box only 6M. But damn, those songs hold up and are incredible power pop songs perfectly executed. Exhilarating and melancholy - the definitive 90’s formula delivered at the start of the decade.

Found this Mojo interview from 2021 which helps answer the question ‘what happened to Karl Wallinger?’

actually knew it was about a tree, but felt comedy was more appropriate here

small ornamental trees are low in priority IMO
there are 100+ year old trees being cutdown as fast as we can and those we should be more concerned about

How's Richard Powers taking it?

Sorry to hear that Walkie. Try to stay positive.
Positive thoughts coming at ya.
At any other age that I have existed in . . . I would be thus worried. But I have seen my sights within this spectrum, and physical death is nothing less but a spiritual doorway.

I, just don't want to be named on this page. Lol.

How will we know if you passed or are on a walky vision quest?

I’ve been fastidiously reporting on who is in rehab and who has died for years.
