This week rollcall

Air were nice and enjoyable. I liked them more than last time.

Magik Markers were great as always. Probably the noisiest Bob Seager cover ever played.
breaking a long gig drought to see Spoon and Deerhunter tonight
sugar t: there were a bunch of comments about the Air show in the "metro after the show" thread.  by all accounts it was even better than the last show.  pissed i had to miss it.
Spoon, Monday, with my wife.

Shearwater, Friday, solo.

Saw some chatter in the DJ playlist thread for Anvil - curious thoughts on that show and any comments for Air?

I wasn't a big fan of them coming into the show. I was totally amazed by their set. Very enjoyable. I'm still trying to figure out what song where they whistling in though.

For me this week it's Boston time.

Friday- PAX East

Saturday- Freezepop @ Cafe 939

The Main Drag/ Anarchy Club/ The Konks/ That Handsome Devil/ Death of the Cool @ Middle East Downstairs later that night
I'd give the Anvil show a solid A.
All three members were a delight to watch, esp. Reiner (the drummer).
They made me smile the whole time…

Man Man/Ed Schrader last night…Man Man were great as usual.

Tonight is Joanna Newsom and maybe Spoon

Thursday is Gang Gang Dance or Male Bonding/Dum Dum Girls
Friday is Shearwater/Wye Oak, then Imperial China
Saturday is Woods/Real Estate/Surf City or Vivian Girls/Wet Dog
Sunday is the XX/jj
Thurs:  Dum Dum Girls @ DC9
I like Reiner too, Vans. Glad you enjoyed the show. Wish I could have seen them. Maybe they will come back 'round again. Sounds like Air was great too.
Anybody have any comments on the Monday Spoon show?
Caught 8.5 songs. I thought they were really good…your thoughts?

Very Good Show. First half=B, Second half=A. Highlights for me were Don't Make Me a Target and Jonathan Fisk. Way too loud up front on the wall under the speakers. Note to self: Stand toward the back at all future 9:30 Club rock shows.

Deerhunter was horrible. Or maybe just not my thing. My wife's review (paraphrased): "Is the singer sick, or did his parents put him on formula the day he was born? A band that ugly needs to come up with some better songs."
I enjoyed it, too.

Deerhunter's lead singer has this. Nice job on your wife's part mocking someone for something they can't control. Sounds like you got yourself a winner there.

But yeah, they were boring for the most part.
What I saw was very good (shamefully I left early because I was out on my feet).

Deerhunter were execrable. Indulgent, talentless, tuneless, pompous wankery…….they should have been bottled off the stage

Friend of mine loved Deerhunter.  It's likely telling that he largely went to see Deerhunter, not Spoon.  Did anyone like them?  I'd have to make some tough choices in order to get there to catch them (I also heard set times ran late last night – oy, on a Monday/Tuesday).
your friend needs help  ;D

Went to see Ikebe Shakedown and if you like some funky tunes to move one's feet too, be sure to checkout 'em out next time the play in the area.
Maybe heading over to see Peter Bradley Adams and Justin Jones tonight at Iota.
Sat - The Soft Pack @ Black Cat

Hmm…The Points playing one last show at Fightclub tomorrow with Cloak/Dagger.
