This week rollcall

Ben/Jay Tues.
(I'm glad I looked here b/c I somehow I began to think Ben/Jay was on Wed., with Bird on Thurs.)
I'm a maybe for Andrew Bird.
And, yes, Nov. is crazy.
That's totally understandable but I was hoping to do Sarah Silverman->WS but those hopes were dashed by a group of clowns (red & black) who don't know how to run a concert venue. Hopefully they'll play Comet or Velvet next time. H St. and DC9 has been pulling in so many shows that they don't deserve to have lately.

Planned to do the Baltimore show until my ride decided not to go. :(

Man, I was loving the line-up switch.  I was beat from a wedding the previous day, so being home by 11:30 was aces in my book.

Did you catch Wooden Shjips in Baltimore on Saturday?

I've been wanting to see her for a while. Could've done her->Wooden Shjips easily. WTF was with the stupid fucking piece of shit Red and Black putting WS on in the middle of three bands? They were easily the most well-known band on that bill. Another dumb blunder brought to us by  the idiots at H St.

Does everyone planning to go to Ben/Jay have a ticket already? I have an extra for sale. Lemme know. I hear tickets are limited.
Just get there early if you can and sell it to the first person  you see  walk up to the box.

Anbody make it out for RDS?  I missed it, completely forgot it was this week.  They were really good and noisy last time i saw them, at their last UMD show, and i cant imagine they did anything but get better…

Was there, and pleasantly surprised. I've heard some not so great things about their sets, but it was rather good. And openers State Department were really good as well.

lucky you, I went last year and it was a blast.  this year will be more insane since it's halloween weekend  ;D
Anyone make it to the Jay Farrar/Ben Gibbard show last night? Wow. Absolutely wonderful!! Thoughts?
The album is great and the songs were played very well but the mix was muddy to the point where it distracted me all night. The low end cut through everything, distorting the vocals.
How was John Roderick? He's usually good for a barrel of laughs.
Whoah…WHERE were you standing? I thought the sound was incredible from where I was! That's insane!
By the cash bar; near the front end. Usually it sounds great there but last night, it sounded to me like a bass-heavy mess. The few others around me also noticed it.

Oh and Jon Wurster  seems to be in every band now. :)
I guess you could say Jon is a buddy now…got to hang out with him after the show. He's such a sweet person, and let me tell you, literally one day he was on the Bob Mould tour two days later he's on this tour. VERY little rehearsal, just a few days with Jay & Ben like 2 months ago. He's supremely talented. Plus he's coming back with the Mountain Goats in November.
That's awesome. It's like he has no downtime at all.

Now if only Superchunk could play the club.
I used to always see Jon Wurster grocery shopping at Fresh Fields when I lived in Chapel Hill back in the 90's. True story.
He still spends a lot of time there!  (In Chapel Hill that is.)
Jon Wurster looks like samfresh5. ;)

I think I saw you bearman while talking to Roderick.

I was near azag and thought the same about the sound. The house music sounded fabulous there that's why we planted in that spot. I think we were (at least I was) hoping they would adjust it at least by the third song. The vibrations were heavy on the cash bar side but it didn't seem that way on the other side. I didn't lose the vocals but they were competitive and the low end was too loud all night. Only when Wurster wasn't playing, or as heavy, it was great. (and it wasn't his hands, it was the mix and volume). I adore Ben, and prefer his vocals/songs in the first half. But, Jay's voice and particular songs in the second half were outstanding. It was nice to see them both less polished and involved in a different project.

Does anyone have a stub from last night they don't want? I don't have mine. If you don't want to part from it - would it be cheesey to ask if someone could scan it and send to me? Okay, it's cheesey, but I got the idea from sweetcell. I do keep stubs, but don't have this one and would like to for keepsake. I think the club throws them out right after the show…

And, did anyone take pictures?

Separately, holy cow traffic sucked. And then I got to the club and it was dead outside! Nice show and opportunity - thanks again, seth and twangirl.
You've got me confused with another bearman…I didn't talk with Roderick ;)  I had on the Social D work shirt.

When I lived in Chapel Hill for a year, the drummer for Superchunk was in line behind me a couple of time at Whole Foods (then Fresh Fields).

I offered to buy his groceries for him, but he refused my charity.
