This week rollcall

How was purity ring?

Have fun at the Makeup tonight.  So sad to be missing it!
short and boring.  lacked energy.  the stage aesthetic and lights were nice, but seemed like it suffered in such a cramped space.
Sad!

Yeah, I hate that space.

Awesome. But maybe my experience was different than Steve's since i was up front.

(They performed short sets because they do not have many songs)

It was definitely not boring.

i could see upfront being a different show. i was further in the back, and didn't have a full view of the stage.

any1 check out the wet nurse show last night?
Wet Nurse show was awesome. Priests were as well but my bias toward them is probably obvious by now.
Lame turnout.
That Wet Nurse album is a fun listen. Stream it.
And Mount Eerie was breathtaking.
Florence and the Machine had the biggest crowd I have ever seen at Merriweather in the 30 years I have been seeing shows there.  Food lines were ridiculous.  And I like how the police would only let people go onto 29 south when exiting.  Pure laziness on their part.

Florence was pretty awesome though.  Didn't care for weeknd.
The biggest crowd I ever saw there was Pearl Jam in 1996.  There was not a spare inch of space on the lawn that night.
Make-up were fun.

Ian is always a great showman and the band sounded tight. Good energetic crowd too.

Thanks for the tickets, K8teebug! I was able to get some use out of one of them while the other languished in Joe's pocket as he flaked on me in favor of boring ass Grizzly Bear.
Glen Hansard was great… except for the annoying lady behind me who was trying to impress everyone by singing every word to every song.  Every time I moved to get away, there she was… right behind me again.

Well, I'm glad one of them was used!  Boo to Grizzly Bear.  Snooze.

Glad to hear they were fun.
Wow, really? I think I've heard them before but honestly couldn't name any of their songs.

did Florence wail or sing?
My wife, who is not much of a music fan, loves the Florence album.
Coincidentally, one of her other few musical favorites is Kate Bush.

I like Kate Bush as well.  Interestingly enough it was mostly women at the show.  I would say well over 80 percent.  Would have been an excellant choice of a show to go if  you were a single man.

Weird question to ask.  Flrorece has an amazing voice.  You must be thinking of some other singer.
Still on pace for the six shows. Switched out Comet for Dementia and Hope Trails in some basement in Frederick. First Frederick show for me ever I think?
Dementia and Hope Trails does the Post-rock thing solo better than 95% of the full post-rock bands everyone gushes about.
Incredible set, as always.
The claims of Grizzly Bear being a snoozefest are bunk. I'd never seen them before, but last nights show was awesome.
It was over three years ago when I last saw them.
So maybe they are better?
But a Make-Up show is a raucous party.
So compared to them, most indie rock bands will come off snoozy.
I am tempted to see either the Wallflowers or Corin Tucker who are playing at the same time at the Black Cat…
