This week rollcall

such unbelievable chemistry among the members of Savages…they're also fun to watch (esp. the drummer). I bet they will sound better at a club the size of 930.

there is a review and photos on BYT:

dcist review:

Looks like DC did not get the 10-minute song "Fuckers"… ehhh, that's like the best part of the show :)
classic negotiation tactic by seth: you can play at the club this fall, but you have to promise to dick the blowtel over and not play your best song.

That DCIst review hits on what bugs me about this band. They are too polished/professional/business-like for a band at this level. They even have specific roles to play in interviews. Basically a boyband for the indie-rock set. I have heard nothing but praise heaped on their live show and am not willing to totally write them off until after I see them but that album honestly doesn't warrant more than a couple listens IMO. The last "mean business in every sense of the word" line in that review sums it up nicely. There are obvious forces at play other than the band here churning pre-album hype since roughly before CMJ last year and providing them with press not afforded to 99.99999% of bands as young as they are. Bands like Wax Idols and Wetdog have been doing a similar thing for years with better, catchier songs now and are deserving of the same amount of attention (more if you ask me) and have gotten next to none. None at all as far as Wetdog is concerned.

/end Savages rant
Hopefully will get outta work in time to see the show at the Cellar Door Tuesday.

I will be at a hippie jam band festival called Under The Stars Fest this weekend because its right down the street from my house.

I will be leaving it to go out to the Ottobar to see Cannibal Ox on Saturday night. Hopefully they don't last minute cancel!

Maybe will hit Artscape Sunday to see The Flying Eyes. If you have not seen these guys quit sleeping on them!
Az - you are aware that it's frowned upon here, to disparage  a popular band while at the same time praise an unpopular band.
Dylan one week from today

Tweedy and James joined him on stage last night in Toronto .. would be nice if that repeated itself at MPP..
Who was the unpopular band I praised? YLT are far from unpopular.
Az, you dissed Savages while praising Wax Idols.
Oh, yeah I did. Are Wax Idols more unpopular or more unknown on this board. I would say the latter. Because they have no hype machine behind them.
Unpopular because they are not as known.  ;)
What do you think the chances are of a cheap lawn seat on stubhub for the dylan/wlico/MMJ show the day of?  I live about 2 miles from MPP and want to go, but don't feel like paying 50 bucks as I've seen them all so many times.

I'm guessing pretty good… pondering this plan myself.
Looks like I am officially going!  YAY!  (Tues - Bob, Wilco, MMJ)…

How did I not realize MMJ was on that bill?  I just said no to the Bay Area show!  I may reconsider…

Thanks for the heads up.

so how went it, mister video game?  see the nerd army, and their parents?  i went to one of those, once.  the very first one, at the kennedy center.  it was the day after the london tube bombing, and my future husband and i were staying in dc . . . crazy times to be a big city that day.  killer show, but i love video games.  do you like them as well.  its ok, we dont judge around here.

you want a cheap or probably free lawn go to the venue and just hang out…

I pondered that, but they close off the woods now.  You can't hang out there.  Plus, I decided just to go…

oh really.. i did not know that.. bummer..
Yeah, the Columbia Association owns the woods part, and they close them during shows.  My friend works at the association and told me this.  sad.
