I didn't stay for Deerhunter, but Times New Viking were disappointing.
Louder than most bands but not overly loud I don't think.

I remember someone here (snailhook?) saying they sounded like a cross between Beaches and Canyons era Black Dice crossed with a poor imitation of MBV. Sounded about right to me.

but hot!!!!
I feel so unmotivated to go to Pelican.

Someone convince me to do so.

Yes, I know how awesome their show at the BC in July '07 was.
I'll discourage you. They're a third-rate Fucking Champs.

Not really.
I'm actually skipping it…just listened to city of echoes again and it's very clear they don't have a very imaginative drummer…i think pitchfork had the same problem…
Pitchfork did have that problem
but I disagreed with that review. No, he's not the most creative musician ever but he doesn't ruin it for me like that reviewer essentially said.
i don't trust or like reviews anymore for anything, unless it is coming out my own brain to accept as true. reviewers and the propaganda press that publish them are paid off by studio plants to paint a pretty picture about the piece.

I kind of agree with this with the exception of a few writers.
Is anyone going to King Mixer at Asylum? I wouldn't steer you wrong!
Really, really dug the Mountain Goats show…and we got "Going to Georgia" in the encore! :)
Yes, that TMG show was excellent!

Way more upbeat than the BC show for obvious reasons.

Also really enjoyed Kaki King's acoustic stuff. Wish she played more of it.

She got a surprisingly long set. Pretty sure it was as long as the Mountain Goats'.
Who was that dude who opened?

Everything he did, sang, played and said was so painfully cliche and generic.
I was quite bored with Kaki King's set. Sure she's a good musician, but she doesn't have the songs.
I wasn't too crazy about the rock stuff.
her songs lack hooks.

enjoy david byrne. i'll be enjoying sea and cake :)

Will do.

Hopefully he'll be able to keep me from thinking about solo Jens. :(
David Byrne was a mixed bag. TH classics were played to perfection but I still can't get into the new album at all. Tower Theater sound was much boomier than I remember it being the last time I was there.

This week:
Diplo/No Age
M83
Brightblack Morning Light

Got an M83 extra for anyone who wants one.
(strongly advised that the Calexico snoozefest is skipped for them ;) )

So who's got my Sea & Cake and/or Jens reviews?
mark kozelek tomorrow..wonder how this will be at the RnR..dont think its the right venue for a solo acoustic show. wish this was at iota.
