Agreed…really enjoyed both, and they were so different. Had to laugh at the jerk screaming for "Did I Say". He was something else. Great song though, and I'm glad they played it. Eugene seemed a little nervous, but overall it was a great evening and a wonderful bill. So glad I got to see this.
bearman, I was hoping they'd do that song (Did I Say) as I was listening to that song over and over and over hours prior to the show. On the TFC forum, someone said it was a woman that was repeatedly asking (maybe a couple of people were asking for it). Anyway, great song and I wish it's a 5 minute song….listening to it again right now…
i guess DC lucked out on this one, as this was the only show with the Vaselines.

Fun night out hanging out with az and van d…. was going to say hi to bearman, but he disappeared as i was buying cds… saw one other charter member of the forum last night, believe last time i saw him at a show was the teenage fanclub show five years ago :o and because i'm such a nerd, i showed up with a playlist on my iPhone since there was no word was passed on regarding a dj, said playlist got used excep for during TFC's change over.
this week it looks like i'll be djing the SCOTS show, i'll be the one in the kilt….

So GbV was pretty good last night. If I was a bigger fan of the band I might have thought them to be really good/excellent, but my knowledge is such that I only recognized two or three songs. The disciples of pollard were loving it (including a number of 40-somethings who were reliving their college days and have a blast at it). The man himself was in great spirits and didn't drink so much as to interfere with his performance. He did, however, drink beer and some sort of liquor throughout the show. I strongly suspect that most people here are going to love this show when it hits the 930. Only real complaint: the band sounded the same all night long. Same instruments, same settings/effects, same playing style… same sound. I know, I know - lo-fi, it let's the song-writing shine, blah blah. Whatever. I could have used a little tonal variety :) By the end of their ~90 min set, it all started to sound the same to me. What little I caught of TNV's opening set was unimpressive.
Currently at the echoplex waiting for talvin singh. Ticket says 8:30. Rushed to get here by 9 only to find out they hadn't even opened doors yet. I forget how spoiled we are by the 930's consistent posting of set times. Wanna laugh? Call the echoplex's tel# during the day and listen to the recording. They essentially insult anyone contemplating inquiring about set times. Thanks for respecting your customer's time, assholes.
Opener was ariana delawari. Her afghani-inspired ethno-folk-rock was really good.

^^ hard to believe it was only a 90 minute show, when they played 37 songs…
In sweetcell's defense…I bet GBV could pick a 37 song, 90 min set list.
In sweetcell's offense…he's clearly wrong on this show being anything other than amazing.

This GBV criticism coming from someone who requires his acts to dress up like robots, have a stage setup like a pyramid and have mind blowing light show to cover up the fact they are twiddling knobs.
Kosmo for the win.

might have been 100 minutes, maaaaaaaybe an hour and three quarters, but it was def under 2 hours.
talvin singh was ridiculous. his ability to generate that many sounds, that quick quickly with just his fingers and 2 tablas was amazing. his setup was 2 tablas, a midi percussion pad, a looper (phrase sampler) pedla board, and a laptop. criminally under-attended, there were maybe 200 people there tops.
