How was the English Beat?

I thought it was a very solid show…. one 2 hour 10 minute set…good lively and sizable crowd… dave wakeling was outside having a smoke afterwards.. he still remembered the HFS Festival way back when…
Puscifer - Sat
Mastodon/Dillinger EP - Sun
I'll be at Mastodon as well. Mostly looking forward to DEP and Red Fang. Mastodon are hit or miss. But their last 9:30 stop for "Crack The Skye" was incredible. Let's hope this show will be a rager!

kosmo, weren't you at the Sharon Jones NYE show with Fitz and his posse opening? They were pretty terrible then, I can't imagine them being good now.

I'd love to take credit for the music last night, but alas they had their own DJ… who took it in slightly different direction then I would have.

Show wasn't as good as it could have been, seemed like the band has a lot of filler or a 90min set much of it ballady.  They seemed stuck in first gear most of the night, but I suspect they have a killer festival set an it's possible they have been out several months touring the same record and are probably getting tired, his voice seemed a bit rough early on.  Fitz strikes me as being a bit like Robbie Williams little brother or an ex-boy band member, clearly a lead singer with more than a few moves.  Band IMHO needs a guitarist and full horn section to really come alive.

They have gotten better since then, but still have room to improve.
Nellie McKay Friday at Kennedy Center
Allen Toussaint Tuesday at Ramshead Annapolis
Avey Tare/Eric Copeland/Insect Factory Wednesday
Psychic Paramount Friday
Maybe John Doe on Fri (JJ) and Val Emmich on Sun (JJ).
Glen Phillips via StageIt on Sun.
Bombino tonight.

Nice… wish I was hitting that.
Dark Star Orchestra tonight.
Bombino, Screen Vinyl, Nettel  and Psychic Paramount are all tonight. Opting for Psychic Paramount. Still, super tough decision.
Music Tapes are doing their annual holiday thing and playing two shows Tuesday. One in Mt. Pleasant and one in SE. Think I'll be doing the Mt. Pleasant one at 7-ish.
And Queen Elephantine on Friday
Pretty sure I'm the only person here who likes Tori Amos, but the show last night was one of her best ever.  And the meet and greet was fantastic.  I think she was always meant to play with a string quartet.
anyone hit up Digitalism last night?  imma outta town, so couldn't make it.
You're not the only one, though I skipped 2007 and 2009 tours 'cause I lost interest from the 'alright' shows from 2003-2005. The new album is fantastic though and this tour with the string quartet is her best since 2001.

nice little Saturday:

Georgetown Hoyas v. Howard Bison @ Verizon
Amir Khan v. Lamont Peterson @ Convention Center
Beady Eye tomorrow.

Prepping for disappointment, so maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised if Liam doesn't sound like a goat being strangled.

Agreed.
Saw Kyuss Lives! at Rams Head Live last night, unfortunately it was a little underwhelming sound-wise, they sounded far superior at the 930.
Wed - Deathfix @ Black Cat
