it sounds like the gayest thing life has ever thrown our way but maybe i am off base.
bands doing DJ sets can indeed be boring or horrible, but they can also be pretty cool. i think it's interesting to hear what my favorite musicians think is good music. sometimes they'll play remixes/alt versions/etc of their own stuff.
and i believe that the "some sorta oasis party thing" would be a listening party for the new oasis album.

They recently put out a notice that they were looking for additional members to fill the holes. So, once they get all those details into place, odds are, we will see a lot more of them around these parts. At least, I sure hope so!

Xneverwherex, please let me know how Darker My Love and The Upsidedown were. It's really bugging me that I'm missing all 3 of these bands but life sucks like that sometimes. All a good match for each other too.
Hayden was excellent. Too bad very few people attended (maybe 35 people max).
Built to Spill is tomorrow. Too bad it is the same night as the Points CD release at the Black Cat. Really digging their sound.
How was the last Oxford Collapse show? anyone?

Lately, I've been on a big Phaser kick (again) and have uploaded a couple of their tracks to my station. I sure miss Phaser!
Originally posted by Jaguar:Jag - lets see. its now my 3rd time seeing Darker My Love. I so much wanted to like them (as I was seeing them 3x), but they just dont translate well live. Theyre a bit stiff and way boring. Its a chore just for the singer to announce their band name, but at least in DC he didnt chastise anyone (although no one asked). Their music is fine, and some songs are quite fun and catchy but overall, if I never saw them again Id be quite fine with that.

As far as The Upsidedown - well theyre now on the dandy's label and theyve added more members (a few members from the outcrowd) to the band. Their dandy's like sound is still very present and it seems that most people who saw them enjoyed them. I think their new stuff sounds great live and Im a big fan of their first album. I really enjoyed seeing them again.
But after seeing Courtney for the 3rd time on this tour, well the openers dont even compare. The Dandy Warhols are sounding better than ever. I think this might be one of the best times Ive ever seen them. 2 hour sets that comprise most of their albums (the 1st one is lacking - aside for the occasional "Lou Weed") but its great to hear a good chunk of 13 Tales (my fav album). They've tweaked most their songs a bit, so they all have a new feel to them. I love pete intl spaceport/boys better - the two are amazing together. Courtney also looks better than ever (at least a bit more healthy) and his vocals have never sounded this great.
he was quite chatty last night which was pretty cool. pete always seems off in his own world and zia seems to be doing a lot more these days.
All I can say is 3x is still not enough. I will add tho Darker My Love seemed really excited when they were in Philadelphia and sounded the best then.
the set list has been nearly the same at all shows. Philly had the most songs and we got to hear Minnesoter, Solid, Country Leaver, Orange (which Courtney barely remembered) and some others that Im forgetting.
The regular set list include the following:
Set:
Mohammed
U2BF
3rd World
Holden Me Up
I Love You
Last High
Money
BOHO
Get Off
Love Song
Good Morning
New New
Dreamt of Yes
Burned
Now You Love Me
Junky
Godless
Wasp
Trucker
Pete / Boys
Country Leaver
I'm supposed to be headed to NYC next week for the Echo & the Bunnymen "Ocean Rain" show at Radio City. Not sure how I'm getting there or if/where I'm staying as I don't think I can miss much work. Oy…but I don't think I can miss it.
Cut Copy, etc anyone?
I'll be the DJ of record for this one….

Very energetic, very fast and very fun. The kind of show where I like to get a few beers in me, and then shout the words along with the band.
