Ended up going to see Russian Circles tonight somewhat spontaneously.

Saturday 2/9 - Warchild @ the Pinch
Sunday 2/10 - Bastard Sapling @ Club K
anyone going to see The Residents tonight?
How did you like The Pinch? I was there for the earlier She Shreds show yesterday. Was my second time there and I really enjoyed myself both times. Nice low key spot. Also, I think everything there is free with a suggested donation

Friday: Yo La Tengo
Saturday: Desaparecidos
Saturday - WHY?, ASTRONAUTALIS and DREAM TIGER at the Ottobar
The Pinch has potential, but the sound was not great– you could barely tell there was a band playing from halfway back in the room, often a problem with rooms so long and narrow (and it was OVER-packed).  Really need to set up some speakers closer to the back of the room.  Also, Shark Week took an unnecessarily long time to set up / start playing– it's fine if you're not going to start playing until after 11 PM, but then don't list 9 PM on your show flyer.  That said, saw a ton of local bloggers out at the show (folks from HometownSoundsDC and DCMusicDownload were both there, plus obviously DCHeavyMetal's MetalChris), so that was cool.  Way too crowded with hipsters (including some overly-coiffed girl in a cocktail dress– where did she come from?!).  But, I mean, it's a free show, so I can't complain too much.

This week:
Tue - Testament, Overkill @ Fillmore
Wed - maybe Hilly Eye, maybe Taylor Carson / Beanstalk Library, maybe just a night home to catch up on writing
Thu - Retribution Gospel Choir @ DC9
Fri - Yo La Tengo @ 9:30
Sat - Meshuggah & Animals As Leaders @ Fillmore
Tuesday: Rufus Wainwright
The PA being used during the early show was pretty spotty. With that said, both shows I saw there started and ended fairly early. I definitely can see being in the back a problem; that is a pretty long way for sound to have to travel. Cigarette (a fairly quiet band) played the first show I saw there and they could barely be heard up front because of a chatty crowd; Cannot imagine what it was like back there. I think the Warchild/Shark Week show was listed in BYT's top picks which would explain the hipster douche quotient.

wow..i wouldn't pass on that if i had tickets…
hopefully . . . you went, brought your kids, they got sick and threw up everywhere like a true fucking rock and roll experience in the big city.  i like that.
Well, I'm last man standing in my house…spent the entire week taking care of three sick people in various stages of illness, so I'm wiped.

Still bucked up and went, though.  Glad I did…maybe the best YLT show I've seen.  Killer jams.

Very much a show of killer jams. And a Sun Ra cover!
Did you see the show a few years back when they played it with the Sun Ra Arkestra? That was awesome.

That Shadow Morton tribute section was nice too.

No. Was that on the Popular Songs tour?
